I collect MANY different things for many different reasons (like most people I assume), and find it really odd that others would care, or be bothered, at all what myself or other collectors do while enjoying our hobbies.

Why should anyone care if some stranger opens, or doesn't open, a toy package? Why should anyone care if a stranger collects for "value", "memories" or "whatever"? The answer is no one should.

However, the reality is a select few do care. I've seen it here in this forum, model building forums, die-cast car collecting forums, toy forums and comic forums. There are always those who think they know the best way to collect, or participate in the hobby "correctly". They can't tolerate this guy or the next, and tend to exhibit base intolerance for subjective reasons, and towards contrary views of theirs. This is a hobby, supposedly for enjoyment.. so why anyone gets worked up by what others are doing (for any reason) is confounding.

Yeah I wouldn't keep them packaged because of any kind of future resale value or anything. I just really like the way the figures look MOC I buy vintage loose WGSH figures and I do the same thing, I collect them MOC and loose, and for the ones I can't afford to buy carded, I get them loose and put 'em on repro cards. I'm just a big fan of the packaging!

But it's alot of fun having a loose set to pose and display too, of course

Since getting into collecting, I realized that part of the nostalgia buzz is the packaging. So all toys I collect, I try to keep the packages. But I also try to open the packages non-destructively so that I can get hands on the figure and store it back in the package when I'm done.

But I don't think I could ever do that to a vintage carded product - free it from the card. That seems like desecration to me. There are plenty of loose examples out there, which likely would've been cheaper to buy had I wanted one.

God help me if I ever get a never-opened non-window box toy. My head would probably explode trying to figure out what to do.

yah, to each his own. it's always funny on forums when we toy nerds pass judgement on other toy nerds because they don't collect the way we think they should. as long as you are paying for it and enjoying the way you collect who cares what someone else thinks?

I open my figures because I like to hold them, inspect them, pose them, play with them and believe it or not...smell them. It brings me back to my childhood when I smell that old rubber and plastic smell from an action figure. Probably not the best thing to be sniffing though.

I also love the packages, so I made sure to get repro cards of all my figures. Super Clams help keep them looking factory fresh, while allowing me to play with them when I want.

I'll keep mine sealed because I am a huge fan of carded Megos.

Open them quickly before the Oil inside the Package gets onto the Figure! Also...be careful when handling them...make sure your Hands aren't all dried out, because the Cloth is so delicate...that you will immediately create "pulls" in the Costume!
