As a collector all my life, we've all encountered those guys who freak out at the thought of actually "playing" with a toy. Those who look at them as a collectable and totally lose sight of the fact that it's a toy. (rememeber the chicken man in Toy Story 2?)

Those who I have encountered like this have always driven me crazy. I never said anyone individual here "was" like that, I was just pointing out my pet peeve sparked by the title of this thread.

If you want to leave it in the box, fill your boots.

No deflection intended, just wasn't interested in justifying my post to you, but since you're persistant and have also taught me a brand new word for my vocabulary, then there you go.

If you'd like me to elaborate or continue beating a dead horse perhaps you could shoot me a pm rather than bore the masses.

Nope, no further discussion on your pet peeve needed (for me). I was just curious if your sharing of it related to any previous post that I may have missed. Seems it did not.

Since we are addressing pet peeves, one of mine is people who post something off-topic within a thread not related, then get irked when others respond (pro, con or w/question) to the very irrelevant subject matter they themselves posted.

If you're going to post a viewpoint, peeve or whatever, expect others may post in reply, and as often as they may want.. contrary to any subjective limits you might find desirable.

        Regards,

        g.

*Feel free to discuss on my off-topic "peeve", as much as wanted, each and everyone.

Thanks for the advice there fella, but I think I'll continue posting whatever it is I feel like posting while being duely warned that someone like yourself may ask for clarification.

Cool picture, I put the new suit on my original T2 plus I bought another one just to have but it out of the package. The new suit really fixxed up the old one.

Sorry I haven't read the whole thread, wanted to chime in and say Open!! My son loves them. But the GL I bought yesterday is unusable for play. I'm taking it back. I'll buy another later. I am considering putting him on a Castaway body as an experiment... I understand their bodies hold up well and are very pose-able?

I plan to get the CCTV Knights/Robin Hood/Pirates and swap the bodies also as I think someone here said.

We have a Trek/Zombie/Apes/Pirates/Knights/Robin Hood/WGSH adventure coming this Fall... from a Dida Display set I think...

I opened mine and replaced it with the Castaway body. A BIG improvement and more poseable due to the arms. As mentioned by others here, being careful when removing the head. Some folks had the head torn during the removal attempt. I used the boiling water method and left the head in a mug for about 3 mins. I left the hands for about 2 mins. Luckily the surgery was a complete success for me.

No problem on the advice, happy to provide.. (it's the Dad in me).

As far as expressing an opinion, go for it, I would, as should anyone. However, don't expect to do it in a vacuum. And, just because you don't like the replies, or reading anymore on a topic/post (in this case, one you started btw), doesn't mean I or others should cease commenting. That was my follow-up point above in case that got lost.

                      Regards,

                      g.

BTW - I never told/asked you to stop posting anything. Ever. It was actually more the other way around.. as you invoked the "beating a dead horse" fail-safe to try and stifle further postings.

Not even a question. I ripped mine open and wouldn;t consider leaving any sealed. It's a new era. The only reason older stuff like Megos have any value is because collecting wasn't such a big thing. Anyone who saves this new stuff for value will end up in the same boat as those who bought the modern Star Wars stuff for the same reason.

Who says people not opening it is because of its "value"? Maybe they'd just rather not open them, like me, because they like the packaging and would rather keep them in their new condition?

I agree. I bought 2 Green Arrows because I wanted one for my kids to play with and then I wanted one for myself just to look at and enjoy. I knew they would be playing rough with the opened figure and I'm OK with that, but at the same time, I bought the extra because I wanted one to look at that would stay fresh and artful. I don't normally leave a new figure in the package, but there are a few things that I've gotten that I really enjoy looking at that I've kept in the package because, to me, the package design is part of the beauty of it.
                              It's all good!

                                Exactly right.

For myself, I don't play with the items I collect, so why open them? I also don't buy/collect most things for "value". (Though I am aware of value to know what to pay, sell or trade for items.) I collect MANY different things for many different reasons (like most people I assume), and find it really odd that others would care, or be bothered, at all what myself or other collectors do while enjoying our hobbies.

Why should anyone care if some stranger opens, or doesn't open, a toy package? Why should anyone care if a stranger collects for "value", "memories" or "whatever"? The answer is no one should.

However, the reality is a select few do care. I've seen it here in this forum, model building forums, die-cast car collecting forums, toy forums and comic forums. There are always those who think they know the best way to collect, or participate in the hobby "correctly". They can't tolerate this guy or the next, and tend to exhibit base intolerance for subjective reasons, and towards contrary views of theirs. This is a hobby, supposedly for enjoyment.. so why anyone gets worked up by what others are doing (for any reason) is confounding.

                                Regards,

                                g.
