Maybe this makes me a bad fanboy but upon watching the series again recentlly I like the made up villans best. egg head, King Tut, Bookworm.
( forgive me if tthey were ever villians in the books I dont know)
and two of the lamer guys Riddler and Penguin are the greatest thanks to casting.
Never really went for Joker, Freeze or even catwoman.

I agree, the casting on the original show was fantastic and the reason so many of the villains were so popular after the show was through. Look at the number of actors still doing fan shows today because of their work on this show. Not that most of them weren't already known actors of the day but how many known actors do you see in today's TV and movie stuff that totally suck? You can't just throw someone in a part because they're well known. It's not a doll it's an action figure.Comment

[QUOTE=geoffdude;455439]A Q&A posted on another site:

Mattel Answer -- " Non-superhero figures are not off limits, provided they have a dynamic look and would work in this style."
Take it for what it's worth..
Doc, did I just read between the lines correctly? Is the "Mego" format going to possibly be used outside the super hero genere?

Female Retro Action Heroes
Mattel has done an absolutely GREAT job with Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Black Canary, Catwoman and Supergirl with their PINK LABEL Collector's line. My daughters love them, and they are very detailed and well articulated. My hope is that they can reproduce that quality with the Retro Action line for the female heroes.Comment

70's/80's style vs. Modern
I'm dying to get my hands on a Tim Drake Robin, Cassandra Cain Batgirl, and the new Batwoman! Black Canary, Mera, Donna Troy, Zatanna, Hawkgirl (Kendra), Dr. Light, and the current look for Supergirl would also be great for the female line. The new look Black Lightning, Martian Manhunter wearing the blue/red costume, Mr. Terrific, Blue Beetle, Hawkman (with skin tight flesh colored costume), Red Tornado, John Stewart Green Lantern, etc. would all be great for the male line.
As far as Villians would go, a Lex Luthor in business suit or in green armor, Scarecrow, Bizzaro, Parasite, Poison Ivy, Cyborg Superman, Deathstroke/Terminator, Deadshot, etc. would all be welcome.
The kids buying comics nowadays are only familiar with the looks of characters that are currently in the books. If the line is to be successful, I think it eventually needs to include more modern looks and characters.Comment

We may see 8 inch Mattel figures in other genres - I am not allowed to say
anything more detailed. MEGO did much more than just superheroes in
8 inches, no reason to think that Mattel couldn't do that as well.
Wonder Woman didn't look like WW because she was Supergirl.
MEGO used the same sculpt for Supergirl, Batgirl, and WW.Comment

I have to disagree with this to a certain extent. I'm fine with the toy line starting off this way, I'd like to see it evolve to involve the looks of current heroes.

The beauty of Mattel doing non-superheroes is their ability to obtain major licenses, old and new, to utilize this format in, as Doc said, like Mego did. They can even offer to do figures in multiple formats, which is something many licensors might be interested in.
