Oh yeah, that's right. Crappy legs on Wave 1, no issues on Wave 2 (Batman)... hopefully

I edited the bow section of my review for a mistake I made and shouldn't have considering I used to be so into archery...

I'd really like to see a pic of the arm attachment you mentioned.

    Green Arrow head swap!

Here he is.....Updated picture. Castaway body (Restrung, for better R.O.M) Old Style Cast-a-Way Boots. I'm using the Matty lower arm w/green hands (fits perfectly on the Castaway swivel upper arm).

Why not switch out the hands on yours with the Mattel hands? Then he will be near perfect.
Working on that,....Right now! I'll post pics soon. I think either of the boots aforementioned look great.

I'm digging the instant customizing of these fellows to whatever the beholder sees as perfect. My son is content with it straight off the card and I am OK with it that way as well.

I am looking forward to seeing what the customizers do with that buffed up top end once there are cheaper figures on the shelves of the local toy stores.

    Green Arrow head swap!

Here's mine,.....Castaway body (Restrung, for better R.O.M) Old Style Cast-a-Way Boots. With a little Surgery the figure looks much better and can pose in any fighting position possible. Removing the head (boiling water Method) was helpful...But not easy. Overall my kids and i are happy with the final results.

I know some of you guys are not completely happy and some what disappointed with this FIRST figure but apart from the arms not twisting and the leg issues(both I'm shore Mattel knows about),every other complaint is minor.Bottom line we should all be HAPPY that a major toy manufacturer is willing to make mint 8 inch DC(and hopefully one day Marvel) action figures in the tradition of Mego.A small company who could probably make a "perfect" figure that would please every one and afford to pay for it isn't going to happen any time soon. Also toy companies like any other business have to generate profit to make sure they will continue to survive and prosper. So if you "need" to improve GA to a certain degree.... than you can.The TRU figures will probable be cheaper than GA and that will be gravy I think he's pretty good and I'm sure more of you agree than disagree with me( I hope )

Thinking about it, I suppose buying them at regular retail and then replacing the bodies and boots would be a bit less than it cost me for Green Arrow. I would be bypassing the $9 Matty shipping charge and the figures are sure to be cheaper at retail, I figure around $12 - $15. So in the end it would probably cost me about $34.00 or so, not close to $50 like with Green Arrow. That makes it a bit better, but one problem is I don't have a Toys R Us real close, so would probably end up ordering from the TRU website, which would tack back on some shipping charges. Plus that is still too much money that I could be spending on vintage toys.

All this being said, I admit that if I saw series 1 hanging on the pegs at TRU I would have a really hard time not purchasing them. Though I would probably just keep most on the card and not spend the extra cash to improve them.

The more I look over at my Matt-A-Way Green Arrow, the more I love him. He looks fantastic.

Don't get me wrong...I'm very grateful these are being made. But I no longer see myself buying an extra copy of each, to keep one MOC. I'll be buying one and opening it, to put on a different Body. I'm still happy to have the Rotocast Heads, and China made Parts.

I think I'll get all my experimenting done on Lex Luthor when he comes out. I do not intend on paying scalper or EBay prices. I want to walk into a store like the good old days and buy one.

    A flash would be interesting.

I already think except for no head pivot for flying, the Silver Age figures were the best made.

I will probably get luthoe and swap him out with a Doc MEgo body. I dont like painted hands.

One of these days I'll get a cast Away.

I can't really think of too many DC characters i want beyond the Silver Age guys. Mostly Horror and War and i doubt they'll make GI Robot or The Phantom Stranger.

My first impressions (in package) - The design is OK, certainly cooler than most modern day packaging, but the cardboard is super thin, and mine came extremely warped. Whatever, out he came...

Out of the package - Nice looking figure from the waste up, from the waste down, awful. His legs and boots are super duper wonky.

This body is indeed garbage. From the waste up I could deal with it, but his thighs are too big, he is bow legged and strung horribly. Good luck getting any sweet pose out of this dud. Whoever approved this design aught to be fired.

It took me all of a minute to get to work improving him. The head on mine was HEAVILY glued, it was a complete pain to remove, hair dryer, boiling water, neither helped enough. I ended up having to pry it out, resulting in cracking the neck of the body. Oh well, good riddens. The hands came out much easier. I popped the head and hands on a Castaway body and put on his costume. Instant MAJOR improvement.

The costume is really nice. The gauntlets are a bit too long, but other than that, beautiful. The head sculpt and paint are great. The hat fit a little weird, but I heated it up and put it on him, and now it fits awesome. The quiver looks great, though since it is made of rubber, it warps a bit when on the figure, but that is a VERY minor annoyance. The boots are clunkers. I have said it before, but they remind me of Famous Covers boots, and I can't stand Famous Covers. I currently have some CTVT repro boots on him, and they look great, but they are split in the back. I am going to order some Castaway boots for him and see how I like them. If I don't, I will get some new CTVT repros.

The bow....good God, this is the worst Green Arrow bow I have ever seen. OK, I can get over the whole arrow being permanently attached thing. I don't like it, but that is the least of the problems. First of all, the arrow is way too short and I can't stand the way the butt of the arrow is so far past the bow string. It is good you can turn the boxing glove, so that the arrow isn't positioned at the bottom of the handle, BUT this makes the arrow sit on the wrong side of the bow handle. Again, who in the hell approved this design!?!?

In the end, after all the changes I made, I love the figure. He is still not without flaws, but really that is OK because most toys aren't without flaws, and with my changes the Matt-A-Way Green Arrow easily looks cooler than any other toys currently on the market.

I probably won't be buying too many of these figures. With all the changes on this guy, he will end up costing me nearly $50, and I am certainly not going to spend that much on each figure when I can use that cash towards real Megos. This one was worth it, because he is my favorite character, but I don't know about the rest. I may buy Green Lantern, but the rest of series 1 I will be passing on. Mattel will REALLY have to improve the body and boots for me to be fully on board, and honestly, I don't see the legs being improved that much, because they would nearly have to be completely redesigned, including the stringing.
Great Review!!! I really hope that Mattel can step up to the plate and rectify the bodies of these figures,.... Especially, from the waist down.
