I think they HAVE to qualify.
How many kids do you think begged Mom and Dad for the reto AT Joes a couple years back? Most kids who got them were kids of Joe collectors or someone remembered them from when they were kids and bought them for neices/nephews, etc...
I think the average kid is not going to have any interest in these whatsoever. I HOPE I'm wrong but I'm quite confident in saying most kids who end up getting a new WGSH/Reto Action figure will be kids of collectors or will get them as gifts from adults who remember the WGSH from their childhood.

I have a question ...
Between reading this thread and the one in buzz seems like the general consensus thinks the crappy gold color is going to be the standard background color of all the cards.
Do yous have proof of this ?
I'm just wondering if maybe this color is only for Green Arrow and the other heroes might have their own NEW colors.
Doesn't matter either way though
That crappy sore-thumb RETRO-ACTION logo will ruin them all anyway.Comment

I really like the golden card color, GA is really gonna pop off that card. I guess I am one of the few who also like the distressed look around the edges. As someone else has pointed out, the space on the back, will be filled with the logos and legal disclaimers. I do wish GA’s name was done in a less generic looking way, but that doesn’t come close to diminishing my enthusiasm for this figure and the future releases.

My opinion on this card is the same as many people's. It's merely okay. The generic font, as some have said, makes me wonder what thought process was used to pick that particular font. I mean wouldn't it be a bit of common sense to use the logo that appeared on the comic book this figure was based on?
I also will add that in my opinion, for this line to succeed at $20 a pop, the collectors need to be catered to to. They will make up a bulk of the sales of these things I think. Your average kid wandering through the toy aisle with Mom isn't going to easily peruade Mom to drop $20 on one figure. The price-point alone makes it a "collectible".
Having said that, if you are considering the collector market; it stands to reason the packagaing is VERY VERY important. Now I realize many of you open your toys and that's great. But the fact is most "collectors" will not open the toy. An opened toy in a collector's hand is the same as an opened toy in a kid's hand...it's opened.
So it comes down to catering to collectors or kids when it comes to the package design and it is my opinion that the collectors are the one's that will keep this line going, not kids talking Mom into buying them for them. I could be wrong but I don't think so.
Having said that, the packaging is indeed just as important as the toy itslef. We collectors consider packagaing important and Mattel should to. The theory that "well I'm ripping mine open so I don't care" doesn't change the overall picture that this card ABSOLUTELY needs to please collectors. I guarantee you if you are in the store as these are first stocked on shelves and stood there until the first of these figures was sold; it would be an adult collector who buys the first one, not a kid. I am quite certain about this as a former toy store manager. We sold more toys in a day to adult collectors be it Hot Wheels, Star Wars, whatever than we did to kids. There's more of us out there than you think.
Mattel, please fix that card, it has to hang on mine, and I suspect many others' walls and I really don't want to see an absolutely gorgeous figure on a card whipped up in Photohop in ten minutes...it's all in the presentation as they say. Give the presentation (the card) the same attention as the item. It WILL make a difference.Last edited by LOU; Dec 10, '09, 1:38 PM.Comment

From Mattycollector:
There will be three waves of four figures in 2010, starting with these characters in Wave 1:

Well, since the figure is out anytime now, I guess the discussion is closed.
It's a done deal.
I think that the danger of gearing it completely towards an "older" collector's audience, is that you're pushing away a potential new and younger audience.
Younger people won't really go for "retro" and a rough-looking card. They'll think it looks lame.
But let's face it: you'll never please everybody.
I just have the feeling that those collectors that wanted "new Megos" will be a bit disappointed (expectations were high), and that new audiences will fail to connect. That this new venture will kind of be in a vacuum between two target groups.
Time will tell.
let's give it a fighting chance!.

Are these gonna be for sale anywhere else but the USA or online?
Will these be shipped to stores in Europe and Australia as well?"...The agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of despair..." - Edgar Allan PoeComment

I don't see a problem with 20 a pops with these, after all the 6 inch Marvel Legends are around 13 or so. I just hope the price doesn't start creeping up like it seems to do with most of hasbro and mattel's lines. You must try to generate happiness within yourself.
