    ROBIN Disscussion

Ok...sticking with 70's Mego Era look...let's imagine what Robin could look like.

First...as mentioned before(by Paul himself)Robin wasn't a little Kid anymore...he was in College in the 70's...so *** was Mego thinking?

Also mentioned...Garcia Lo'pez style works quite well with 70's Mego.

Robin has always been 18 to me, so I'm inclined to agree.

As for what was Mego thinking, technically the concept of Robin being an adult was new in the 70s, he had been a child for the majority of his tenure. Even the 7-11 cups showed Robin as a child and some of the art dated to the golden age.

I'd love to see a Teen Wonder Robin. It always puzzled me why Mego went back nearly 10 years to the double-curl look. A mid-teen, TV show era Robin would have made more sense than the young version Mego gave us. Of course, the college-era Teen Wonder would have been perfect, and accurate to the comics at the time.

Dick Giordano definitely did a great Robin. He looked mature, but still youthful. I prefer his solo Robins over Adams' version. He tended to make Dick look a little smaller and younger.

A Robin "Teen Wonder" based on the pics above would be a HUGE hit with collectors. I hope Mattel is listening.

I feel the "kid" Robin would be ok...if he were going to be 7" Teen Titan size. But if he's going to be 8" Mego size(like the rest of the Figures)...then the College age Robin makes much more sense.

Would they even be able to do a 70's Robin with the way they are about style guides and all ? Would we most likely be treated to a current Robin look ? Either way I am looking forward to a Robin no matter what era his look is from

From the looks of things, they will be keeping the figures retro, and following old style guides. DC still releases tons of merchandise with the 80s style guide art like the Robin guide posted above. Sinestro and GL would have different suits if they followed the current style guides.

I like the look of the 70's robin art as you have pictured. I think it will go well with the line and follow the Superfriends theme. Even though, like many, I never cared for those tiny shorts, it is the classic look for him. I think I would prefer that to a kid 7" version of him, unless they want to do a Titans line then he would fit in with that I suppose.

Either way, I would like to see a nice quality suit and accessories for Robin. Good fabric for the shirt (not nylon), nice gloves (no oven mitts)I'm thinking fist hands with gauntlets to mimic gloves, and a good match with the colors, Nice and bright.
A removable mask might be fun, but I still like the painted mask look as well.
I'd be totally cool with a robin that follows that first pic you present.
"Steel-like jaws clacked away, each bite slashing flesh from my body - I used my knife and my hands, and when they were gone, my bloody stumps - and yet the turtles came."

Chris , you know I did not even think about that. I totally forgot that Sinestro , and GL have different suits these days. I still collect comics but here and there , and usually early 90's backwards and I don't read them anymore ( I know taboo as it is ) . Cool, I am glad they sticking with the retro looks !

This Pic, is actually a Neal Adams/Dick Giordana Collaboration. I think Giordana is another great choice for 70's Megoesque.

I like Robin as an older teen between 17-20. I think he should be 8" like the others.

Didn't Mego do the Robin that way in the larger size (12" Batman companion)?
Yup, there is a foreign 9 1/2" Robin for the skinny body 12 1/2" Foreign Batman, and a 12 1/2" Robin that was first issued with magnetic hands. He reuses a modified Gabriel Lone Ranger sculpt! But both depict the older, parted hair, Teen Wonder Robin

Yeah, thats the look. The "Teen Wonder" look. Most of just don't want the double curl, younger Robin look on the new EMCE/Mattel figure.
