If I had my nerdy little way, it would be boxed and then sealed in a protective case that is shaped like a Kresge card. Mattel did something similiar with their He-Man reissues about 8 years ago.

I know we've got time but I wanted to mention that I WANT EVERYBODY's pics of these when they arrive at TRU. Camera phones away, let's get a scrapbook going.
I read market research back in the day that found the average consumer will spend 10-20% more on an identical item in black packaging. Personally I think off-register primary colors are the same for us, because I just want to walk into a store and shove them directly into my eyeballs.
If you don't like the weathered look on the packaging I'm sure you can always find a place to get repro non-weathered packaging...
Seriously, the packaging should be the least of our worries....I'd be more concerned with the choice of characters and the execution of said characters. That is what is going to determine how far this line goes, not the freakin' package.
If you're marketing to kids, the weathered package shouldn't make a difference if the figure in the CLEAR PLASTIC BUBBLE is freakin' awesome. Kids will throw the package away anyway. That's what we used to do.
If you're marketing toward the adult collector, we're smart enough to know the difference between a 2010 Mattel 8" Superman in retro-weathered packaging and a 1976 Mego Superman in real-weathered packaging.
It does not matter to me, I have enough original T2 bodies. As long as they have the rubber heads, and are 8" tall. I will swap mine out and trade the mattle bodies. That is what I did with my Chekov & Sulu.
I agree with a couple of folks here, keep the packaging simple, somewhat retro (I like the idea of the old backer card design) and most importantly keep it cheap!!!
Like ctc mentioned, this line has a lot of potential to go past collectors and grab kids attention. If the figures are priced appropriately, the better the chance the new Megos (Mattos?) have of becoming as popular as they were in the good old days!
I've decided to be naive and hope these things sell well beyond the collectors market. I hope kids are fascinated enough with cloth figures that they want these "new" Megos. I hope Paul and Joe move into huge houses and no longer give us the time of day because they're to busy hanging out with movie stars and fellow rich folks.
I don't think its naive at all to think like this. To a kid today, inundated with oodles of plasticky Superheroes in 3 3/4 and 6" scales, along with the Super Friends and Imaginenext stuff, I think a Mego type figure, especially ones as nice as these, will stick out from the crowd. To them, its original and new. I think they will be a surprising hit.
No offense to our group here, but I would actually prefer to see these figures sell better to kids instead of collectors. You walk through any toy aisle these days, and I'll bet 60-70 percent of what you see is aimed at collectors instead of kids!! Thats sad.
....I just thought of one card change I would like to see. PLEASE dont stick Batman on a PINK backer card!! Dark purple, blue, black...green with "yeller polkadots and daffy-dils"...anything but pink! Please....the man watched his parents killed right in front of him....hasnt he suffered enough?

That's what I hope
Been there and done that and it ain't what it's cracked up to be. But I appreciate the sentiment

Nowadays anything done by Mattel that has a PINK backer card might automatically wind up in the infamous PINK (Barbie) aisle!
I'd hate to see the Caped Crusader wake up from his multi-decade nap, only to discover that he's not surrounded by the members of the Justice League... or even the Legion of Doom.
Instead, his peg mates are Skipper, Barbie and worst of all .... Ken!
