I remember that smell! The smell of vinyl playsets and new dolls. The smell of Jolly Time popcorn fresh from the skillet in our kitchen. The smell of a freshly opened Ben Cooper/Collegeville costume. The smell of bubble gum and new sneakers and the corner candy store. And you got to experience it first hand. Lucky!

I really envy you guys. I bet it smelled like the 70's when you opened those boxes. I hope you breathed it all in deeply--all of that magical, rarified air --before it had a chance to mix with, and become contaminated by, all of the common air that surrounded it.

I bet it smelled like 20 cent comic books and carefree Saturday afternoons. I bet it smelled like Wacky Packs and bubble gum cards. I bet it smelled like the world used to smell, before our noses grew too big and too old to appreciate such childish things.

I bet it smelled like movie theater popcorn, and the latest issues of Famous Monsters Of Filmland and Mad Magazine (40 Cents Cheap). I bet it smelled like Christmas morning, and the last day of school before summer vacation--all rolled into one.

Does anyone else remember that smell?
