My understanding is Dr. Evil WAS perhaps designed to wear villain costumes and masks, but Ideal decided to steer CA away from that as the Dr. was being released. That's when the boxes changed to the photo boxes with no mention of the heroes CA and AB could become.

Unfortunately, the entire line only lasted from 65-68. Certainly not a perennial seller like GI Joe, but it did have a rabid following among Superhero fans (like me). I can still recall the Christmas I got most of the figures (and a Silver Streak vehicle too). Are you aware that they have just now revived the Comic book?? (done by Moonstone now).

It depends on whether he was a good seller I guess.

Actually, the original Dr. Evil concept (which should have been focused on media villain costumes) relied much almost exclusively on his basic form (minus 2 generic masks he came with). It wasn't until the "revival" in 1998 that we could buy Dr. Evil as alternate characters (Tonto, Singh). We NEVER got the Red Skull opposite Cap, Joker for Batman, Luthor for Supes etc...)

I guess it was the exception that proved the rule?

I don't know if Dr Evil was a hit or not but I've read that he was designed to wear mass media villain costumes.

The villain concept wasn't largely popular with in house properties until the 80s when tie in cartoons became legal. You can't really call the WGSH "the mego model" as characters such as The Joker and Riddler were supported by various forms of mass media.

Almost every attempt to create a villain for an unlicensed property was unsuccessful in the mid seventies, characters like Zorak, Hypnos, Intruder, Captain Zargon and Gor were peg warmers.

Well the best/successful action figures lines are based on Conflict, and what more basic than Good veruse evil.
I don't want him to have a cape and super Powers , But more Like Bond and man who gets by with his whits , enginuity, and raw courage. The problem with the relunch is that he was all over the place , he was a WWII army Ranger and he was a Hight tek spy.
The AJ 71 suffered from an ugly face, and Outfits with no central Theme.

Hasbro Found out In the mid 70's and started to Copy the mego model.
with the introduction of a Villian.
Acton Man had lasted longer than G.I.Joe and they branched out with the
    Space Pirates.

Gosh I'm getting old...cant remember the name of the member here who does the fuzzifying of Mego heads?

If they did do a new AJ line, I like the Bold Adventure title Megotu mentioned. Sounds...bold. I would add a backstory to the line, making up an Mission Impossible,A-Team,Magnum PI type of storyline where the members of Bold Adventure lead normal lives, but band together when a dire situation calls them to action. One guy could be a pilot like TC, another a photojournalist, wealthy playboy, etc...etc.
