Roger Barrett
Roger Barrett tried to do chairs once. Anyone know what happened to him? He emailed me in Sept 08 but didn't mention chairs.
Anyone have a chair that a mold could be made from?
If so, I'll check around. If not, I'll lay off until I have some money to make this work.
I guess I could get an artist to make a chair in clay and mold from that? I don't know how else to try to make a chair.
Thanks for the reply, Scott. I have hit your homepage again.

OK, here is how little I know.
I found this online Manufacturing Cost Estimation and guessed.
It looks like if I was close, 1000 chairs cost about $11,300.00 or $11.30 each if I'm close estimating the size of the chair.
Let's say they are $15 ea for 1000.
Were there enough people on here willing to buy 1000 chairs at $15?
That means 100 of us would need to want 10 chairs for $150.00, right?
Was that close to what happened before? Were there 100 people wanting about 10 of them? I don't know what they cost.
I don't mind calling around on this because if I get a client out of this I should be able to put in $300 or $600 toward this.
I know this may be a VERY dead horse, but I figured I'd ask. Like I said, my movie is 20 years late... it may never happen. The only "collection" I have is for figures for my movie.
I did get my degree but I don't have a camera or know enough about Final Cut Pro (which I also don't have) to edit this myself. That was my initial interest but I would participate to make it happen especially if I can get a client out of this.
I just went back to check the link and did it again and they came to under $10ea for 1000. But I'm really guessing on the area and square inches and so on. I may call these guys and see what they say and if necessary I'll ask Scott for whatever numbers he was working with for volume and area. But if I tell them on the phone that I need a chair about 6in high, 2in wide and 2in deep all one piece, they can probably guess for me pretty close.
Doc used to have Wayne Manor Chairs. Anyone have one of those to work off of? How were they made? Is Doc on here? I may email him about this directly later I guess. But I have a 7am appointment. I need to get to bed.

Burke Chairs not dead yet
FYI,
I have found the FX company that worked on the Trek Film I worked on. I've mentioned elsewhere that they build an Engineering Room miniature for the movie. It was awesome. I think I saw it unpainted. I will recognize it if they finish the movie and it is used in a shot...
I will post a new thread if they are interested in making a Mego Sized Burke Chair for Trek Displays. Even if they just make the prototype.
Standby...-

I have a call and an email in to my FX contact. The receptionist thinks they may be interested. If they are, I'll come back and see who still wants to spend $ on Trek Chairs.
I may need a sample "stool" for scale, anyone have one? I will donate an 8" mego for them to test with if this works.
Just an fyi. I am not trying to get anyone excited, I'm just trying to be ready in case this guy says "OK, it's slow. I can make a toy." I hope to know more by tomorrow.

The pic I posted is one of the ones on this page.
No word from my FX Guy Dave. I'll try tomorrow.-

My FX guy is interested in what these chairs will involve and how many may be interested.
If anyone is interested in the chairs still, just post here with a quantity and we'll see what he thinks about making a mold and/or producing them.
Since some of you just lost money on this I know there is a good chance that no one can or will do this again.
But if there is still interest, this may be the way to get it done.
I think I once counted I wanted 10 chairs so I could "shoot" the Bridge or the Briefing Room. Eventually I may like to get 20 so I could have both displayed simultaneously.
Thanks in advance. I really have no idea what the current level of interest in series-accurate chairs is.-

No one lost money but me, Doug. I'd suggest you start a new thread for this that isn't so tied to the failure of my project.
I've sold 25 of my Bridge sets, and would probably sell more if I had chairs, so my customers are interested. With the interest in the EMCEs I think there's reasonable interest, I think 1000 could eventually be sold, especially on eBay, but not at once. My 500 preorders depended a lot on Doc and Joe commiting to 200 each for their stores.Last edited by megoscott; May 6, '09, 8:33 AM.This profile is no longer active.Comment
