    REMCO 9 IN. MONSTERS question

Have any of you guys/gals that collect these noticed
that some boxed 9 in. Remco Universal Monsters have a yellow insert and some have an orange insert?
My Wolfie and Mummy do,check it out:

    Mego Talk

I'm wondering which would be the earlier issue of the 2 ,
orange or yellow insert card?I'm thinking probably yellow is a LATER release bc that's what Creech and Phantom have(which came later than the 1st 4).
All you proud owners check your MIB monsters and chime in please.
Has anybody figured out the pattern with this?
I've seen orange cards in Dracs and Frankies on ebay as well.

Also,if you look at my pic above, you'll notice the Dracula is by Ideal
instead of Remco,I am aware this is a euro release.
Who else has one of these Ideal 9in monsters?
I'm also trying to figure out what is the timeline on those.

    Best,
    M

The only one in my collection that has the orange insert is the Mummy, I never even noticed it before.

I'd go along with your theory that orange=early just because it seems to be on the main four characters. As well, I know this seller purchased a whack of these at one time on close out and they're all yellow insert.

Has anyone ever seen a First issue character in a box that shows Creech and Phantom? I don't think they exist but you never know....

I bought Dracula and Frankenstein new when they were first out. I picked mine up at Children's Palace and, at the time, I thought they were pricey...see photo below. I loved the package artwork so much that I picked up two Frankensteins. I never saw Wolfman on the shelf (or the others) but did get me a loose one a few years back and put him in a beautiful reproduction box, which has a yellow insert. I know the series was not out long ('80 -'81 maybe?). The figures were quickly relegated to the 3 3/4 variety which seem to hang around a little bit longer. You can find that scale in abundance on Ebay. Just type in 'remco monsters' and you hit a jackpot. Here are a few pics:

Hard to believe anyone could find fault in this price, but at the time it seemed like alot compared to similar figures...but then again I was a teenager with very little money buying these with what little I could save.

I know this is a bit off topic, but I was wondering if anyone remembered this classic puzzle kit from the 70's. I picked it up a few years ago, still wrapped in plastic, for $5.00 at a yard sale. That was one heck of a steal.

That pretty much confirms the theory, on a side note here is an old newspaper clipping I found:

WOW! That wolfman puzzle (or at least the picture on it) looks REALLY familiar. I wonder if I had that or something else with that same picture?
Why does he only have 3 fingers & a thumb? LOL Is that Disney Wolfman?

That Wolfman painting was one of the 4 Super Sugar Crisp Glow in the Dark monster posters from 1975.

There was also a Frankenstien by James Bama and Phantom and Creature
by Basil Gogos.I don't know who the Wolfman painting is by but it pales in comparison with the other three.
That generic Wolfman art had also appeared in a few other mediums
if I recall it was on some Warren Publishing/ Captain Company related items.

Brian,I love that b/w ad.Never seen that one before!

Do you have the pic from the Montgomery Ward 1980 catalog?
That has a nice, lesser seen shot of the prototypes/prduction samples
                of Drac,Frank and Wolf(no Mummy,tho..?).

                I think I have it somewhere,if you don't.
                I gotta go digging.

Yeah that could be a possibility.
I KNOW I have seen it before and not in the "somewhere online or a magazine" way. I know I had something with that pic. Just don't recall what. It just struck that "hey, I had that" chord when I saw that puzzle pic.

I have the Wolfman(1183), Dracula(1182) and Frankenstein(1181), puzzles in a can from that series. They were made by 1974 American Publishing Corp. Watertown, Mass 02172 USA. I found all three, opened, in a ebay auction some time ago. I was looking for a Frankenstein puzzle that my grandmother bought me one Christmas, since lost to time. That puzzle was one the three things that scared the hell out me when I was little. This series Frankenstein puzzle was it. Pity thou the Wolfman puzzle was not complete like the other two.
I always wonder if there was anymore to the series.

In theory, if the orange insert figures were early they should be Type 1 bodies in those boxes, while the yellow should be the later type 2 body.
