I will only get Hawkman and the Keaton Batman under the strong assumption the body must be changed to the Type-S. As I kid my Megos were able to withstand play. Mego bandless bodies have been nothing short of problematic since. They look nice but once outta the box. I wonder how long Mego will stay in business with the lack of quality control.

I sorta feel like a kid who was about to get handed a Strawberry Sundae and then have it taken away.
The issue isn't that the bodies are brittle. It is that during assembly, the joints often get turned underneath the clothing. You can end up trying to bend something a way that it isn't supposed to bend and it snaps. But if you carefully make sure that everything is pointed the right direction before you start posing, they seem to hold up pretty well.

(Banded bodies had their share of issues too. Bands breaking. Knees snapping. Etc. In the modern era, the tension from the bands had caused a number of figures to crack and fall apart. So I don't blame Mego for trying to upgrade. The Type Z bandless bodies-- originally from Castaway/Zica-- are great!)

Unfortunately this was not my experience and the experience of people posting. I already knew about the breakage issue before opening my Wave 18. I stripped my Firestorm, 2 Dr. Fate and Deadman before any attempt to moving the joints. I even used the warm water method that's mentioned in the fwoosh forum for stuck joints with Marvel Legends figures. Of the four I opened I have 2 figures with no issues. One Dr. Fate's arm snapped at the elbow and I think my Deadman snapped at the knee. The prior bandless bodies did not have the joint breaking issues but they had others: aka semi floppy sidekick body and the no knee articulation body. Mego bandless bodies have been problematic from the beginning and it seems they have no intention of addressing this matter. I guess as long as there is sufficient $$$ generated, the need for quality control becomes a nonchalant matter. I will continue to buy the ones that appeal to me with the knowledge I will most likely have to transfer them into a Type-S body. I still have 2 more Dr Fate, 1 Two Face, 1 Red Tornado and 1 Firestorm MIB. I will never buy multiples like this again knowing there's a good chance they are already broken inside the box. My assumption at some point other buyers will also spend less $$$ or none.

I'm a little mixed on these. Kingdom Come Superman and Keaton Batman don't interest me. That said I know we all have different interests and I am super happy for those of us that love these figures. I can understand putting Hawkman in this packaging due to his wings. I have a custom, they don't fit great into a Mego box. That said I liked the added details of the eyes and the yellow on the boots. I feel like the prototype in the Wave 19 photos looks better than the new/production one. I'm hoping Hawkman is a one-off in this packaging and they continue the 50th anniversary line in boxes. Have a great day everyone!

I'd love to see more images from the display. No toy website has reported on Mego even being there.

Ah, it sounded like you had only seen the problem in a Youtube video. I wasn't trying to discount your first-hand experience. That stinks that you had so many issues with your figures.

Some of those characters use non-standard colors for the bodies. I could see that being a contributing factor, maybe?

In any case, sounds like you did everything you could possibly do to avoid joint breaking issues. Apologies if it came off sounding like I was blaming you or doubting you.

I do not understand Toyfair anymore. I have already picked up most of the new Godzilla figures. The only ones I have not seen are blue Mothra and orange Godzilla.

My local Walmart already has some of the new dolls and plushies of the retro figures sitting on there shelves.

Toyfair used to be how the judged to go past prototypes with there orders. Now it's just another convention.

I had no issues with the initial offerings of bandless bodies ( shazam , black Adam ) or the first wave of 50th figures. Unfortunately my experience with the second wave was thff see same as those who have reported joint breakage and I too stripped off the costume and ensured that everything lined up properly. It seems that in trying to correct the limited motion especially in the knees from the first wave they inadvertently created another problem

Are they now doing layered trunks on the superheroes? Jeez, I can't fully express how much I loathe that.

I really want Hawkman and hoping desperately that his head is scaled properly.

If they switched boxes them I'm done with DC ( only wan't 50th style) this looks like the giant Mcfarlane boxes that you need power tools to open. I sold off all my carded Mego DC except Wonderwoman. I would pick up Supergals or others in the 50th boxes. Hulk and Thing in big boxes if they fix the size issue would be my only purchase

Thanks for the great newsletter, very intriguing! Can't wait for the next DC wave and hope we'll get a date for it soon. The packaging surprised me, not sure how I feel about it. It is a big advantage when you can see the whole figure. The boxes kind of obscure the top and bottom parts. I never got a boxed Mego as a kid so I'm partial to blister-cards, they're my favorite. Still, packaging is not all-important. Hawkman with pupils would make more sense than this new version, I think. I don't mind the one-tone boots though because I can live with a degree of simplification in the Mego format. Too much detail can also look awkward as some FTC figures have demonstrated. I don't worry about head size since all the final versions Mego released have turned out alright in that regard IMO.
