The Martian Manhunter's head is smaller than it looks in pics. When I received mine I was expecting a lot worse but I liked it and bought another one.
I am hoping that this is the case with Batman and Ras

The neck can be camouflaged by using a "ruff" like they use on the 66 Batman under the cape.

For me, at least this time, it's not that the head is too big but that the neck is kind of on the scrawny side. And maybe with a bigger chest emblem everything would balance out?Leave a comment:

Ok, sure the BATMAN head sculpt isn't perfect...but I like it. Is it to big...I'm not sure(and I'd be one of the 1st to cry GIANT head!
)? But I intend to put mine on a Doc Mego Buff body with the swivel biceps and maybe a bigger chest...that should make the head look a better scale. Glad they used the gloves and boots the did.

I'm not saying that the heads don't look too big in some cases, just wondering if those factors mentioned make it more difficult to get the size "just right". I think to look in proportion for super-heroes they probably should be just a little bit undersized.Leave a comment:

I do kinda wish we could line all of the FTC heads up and sort them by size. From the pictures, it still looks like Martian Manhunter is the biggest I've seen on any of the FTC figures. Second would be Draco Malfoy. Then maybe Alfred.
It just makes me a sad bear.

There's nothing wrong with the Mego body or format; Mego did fine with their heads with only a handful of exceptions, and Diamond's Marvel Megos are doing fine on that count as well. A normal person is supposed to be about 6 heads tall, but there is a comic book tradition that heroes are about 7 heads tall (even if they don't tower over the regular folks; it makes their proportions more impressive), so, if anything, the heads should probably scale a bit to the smaller end of the scale. Mego tended more to the realistic 6 heads, which was fine; these were basically what the characters would look like if they were real, so more natural proportions fit the style. Not saying Mego proportions were absolutely perfect, but there's only a few of the old heads I can think of that were anywhere near as bad as Gordon, or the new Batman, or J'Onn, or Bizarro, or Alfred, or...It's cool to finally have a new Batman sculpt, as well as new characters available. Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the male figure in a drawing be about 6 to 7 heads tall for correct proportions? It's hard to tell on the screen, but I think most of these figures hit that mark, but the heads still look a bit large on some of them? Maybe there is something else going on with the proportions and the design of the old Mego body making things look off. Almost like the head needs to actually be undersized to look right to our eyes? Either way it's great to have so much product in this format to chose from, can't wait to get mine.
Starting to see my point there?
Main point is, out of the four, I'm ordering Ra's. That's it. For an old Mego fanatic like me, that's very bad.Leave a comment:

One by One:
Batman: Not a big fan of the short sleeves ending at the gloves; didn't work well with the original Titans, doesn't work today. And I'm still rather puzzled by the microscopic bat symbol they keep using; it is way too small. The gloves and boots look really nice in and of themselves, though. I will say I'm not a fan of closed fisted hands o these figures, though; with Green Lantern, the closed right hand is understandable for his most classic ring slinging pose. But Bats needs both hands able to hold something. We have Batarangs and other accessories for this scale now, and I'd like to be able to use them with him if I want. Neither hand seems ready to hold something well. Not really a Neal Adams Bats, more of a mixture of the artists of the period, but a decent version of the Bronze Age look. As for the shading, it's nearly impossible to get a paint job to look quite right, as the way the mask was shaded in those days really didn't square with how light would actually hit the cowl, so the straight blue is, I think, the best way to go. It would be a near perfect head if the figure was 9.5 inches tall. Another potentially great figure brought down considerably by FTC's antipathy toward any kind of consistent scale. Getting really tiresome. Waiting to see how bad it is in final form before I buy this one.
Gordon: Same as we have, ridiculous head and all. Nothing unexpected.
Scarecrow: Don't see any difference; still a really good looking figure, one of their best.
Ra's: Hard to tell with the overly bulky clothing, but his head doesn't seem as badly bloated as initial images seemed. Comparing it to the pic of Gordon and looking at the hand and the distance between the head and the crotch, it doesn't look humongous. Maybe a little big, but more Thor/ Conan big than Alfred big. The sculpt is still the best Ra's ever, and the most correct. Every Ra's I have or see has eyebrows, dang it! FTC is so far the ONLY toy maker that paid enough attention to detail (and Neal Adam's own words on the subject) to do him right. I do wonder why they didn't chose his most iconic look with the green suit, though; I would have thought that was a given. I really hope the head isn't horridly oversized, because I can live with the alternate clothing choice if he's decently proportioned. It's the head that makes the man here, not the clothes, and the sculpt just leaped off a Neal Adams drawn page.
Not really thrilled here, overall. Two figures pretty well ruined by the head size (and this time the head may really be a deal breaker on Bats if it's that bad in final production; it's already more than enough reason to pass on an alternate Gordon). Just hoping Ra's isn't ruined the same way when I see the finished product.Leave a comment:

I was looking forward to this Batman, but the head just seems too large and the bat-symbol seems too small.
As I already have Scarecrow, I will definitely get Gordon and Ra's.
I do like most of what FTC is doing...I just wish they would get the scale for the heads a little better.Leave a comment:

Black Highlights!!!
If you pose the figure, it will have the natural shading it should have in the light that it is in.. Never understood the fascination with painted on shadingLast edited by madmarva; Apr 10, '16, 1:30 PM.Leave a comment:
