THe 12" Mego line came close, with basically a Marlon Brando head on a classic Jor-El costume, but we've never had a proper comic based version of either of Clark's sets of parents to my knowledge. A Superboy figure would likely mean Jonathan and Martha in the set, but Jor_el and Lara would make for some really nice looking Megos.
And I think it's long overdue for such characters to get made. I know there are a lot of heroes and villains we have yet to see, but this could very well be our only chance to get folks like Alfred or Jimmy Olsen, with a smaller, collector based line of figures. Let's face it, if Mattel ever decided to try an 8" line again, we would never see supporting characters there; we'd be lucky if we didn't get 20 versions of Mego Batman out of the first 22 figures. The one thing I've always disliked about super-hero lines is that super folks are pretty much all you get. Only back in the Mego days could you get things like compatibly made and scaled cops, first responders and regular people for the bad guys to menace (thank goodness for Rookies, Emergency, Dinah Mite and Action Jackson). And seriously, how can you play with Batman and Robin WITHOUT having Alfred tooling around the Batcave making acerbic remarks? How do play with Superman and not have the Daily Planet staff around, or Lois for him to constantly save? And for collectors, I think having these characters makes for a much richer display; instead of just having a bunch of costumes floating around, you have a human element for the heroes to defend, and for the people looking at the display to connect with.
