I think other attempts at offering different body types for fashion dolls have always failed because they never tried to make their dolls pretty and fashionable. "Average" doesn't have to mean ugly. Kenner's Dusty is infamously scary and being able to stick on scars, stretch marks, pimples and warts decals onto the already plain Lammily doll is not really a selling point.

The fashion doll market has really changed in the last several years. Offering a cheap basic doll and offering loads of fashions doesn't really work anymore. When the market is more about selling pre-dressed character dolls you don't have to worry about having every doll exactly the same so every fashion could fit every doll.

Cindy was showing me this at lunch. I think this is definitely a good thing. I remember she had a doll called "Happy To Be Me" that was of an average body type, but it didn't seem to go anywhere. With the Barbie brand behind it, this should stick, and will definitely help girls who are struggling with the unattainable body image the old Barbie popularized.

I don't think anyone is saying they innovated this. But, Lammily is a niche item. Barbie is ubiquitous.

I clearly mentioned this has done before in my original post. I even mentioned Lammily along with Kenner's Dusty. I feel the these types of dolls have never really caught on before is they have been really ugly and came with bland fashions.

I forgot to add even though I think these are the best attempt at size diversity in fashion dolls, I feel it's still going to be a niche market with in Barbie. The sales of theses are going to be tiny in comparison to the adventure and fantasy lines like DC Super Hero Girls.

Isn't the darker skin and hair one being more "curvier" a bit of a racist stereotype that Latin woman have bigger boobs and behinds ?

I think they should mix and match the hair and skin colors.

The various body styles, skin tones, eye colors and hair are all mix and match and not exclusive to any one doll.
