Does this mean with a big gut he gets a Viagra accessory box? For all the good intentions this may cater to, it could ultimately serve to hurt the lasting message. The toy industry is all about sales. What does Mattel do if the alternate body styles do not sell but the traditional ones do? How do they explain themselves if they have to discontinue the PC bodies? I think Mattel definitely walks on thin ice trying to take it's brand name and cater to body image issues through a toy. While I will always be sympathetic to those that have those issues, I'm not convinced making a toy that shares those features really addresses the underlying issue so much as magnify the perception. Kids tend to call it as they see it. I doubt many kids will call those particular Barbie's "curvy". This will be interesting to watch.

How do they explain themselves if they have to discontinue the PC bodies?

There is nothing "PC" about offering a variety body types, skin tones, eye color and hair color so little girls and mix and match parts and make a doll they like. So, please don't try to politicize this. It's really no different than adding more articulation or a new theme, like the DC Super Hero Girls. I like Barbie and just thought it was something cool.
