So is that actual box art? Was there supposed to be a cat? Does Ripley come with a cat now?

          That Nostromo playset is brilliant.
I especially love the "as seen in the movie" quote. Didn't know the ship had a funky bar and all. I'm getting a Spaceballs flashback....

Now I must make a custom of that, of course, with the box...

Honestly, the cards and my display space have me keeping them closed. The desire to put some of them in the cantina or Death Star playset is huge though.

That Playset is inspired! I've been slogging through eBay looking for a nice Cantina for my ReAction figures.

If you look at some of the vintage Kenner/Mego/Mattel stuff, it's nicely detailed with good likeness.
The first series was hand sculpted and it shows. Funkos biggest problem is all subsequent figures were digitaly sculpted by someone with the idea that poor likenesses and 5poa = vintage look. I have no problem with the digital sculpting part, it is a great tool for getting the majority of the work done. But once the initial sculpt is printed make wax casts of them and let an artist with a good eye for vintage modify it. It is an extra step, but I think it would do wonders. Ryan

I agree, just look at those SMDM prototypes that are going around the web, creases in their clothing, nice likeness, little details like that would make it a knock out.

Someone I know has spoken to Funko and i got the impression when he relayed the comments to me that they really do think Retro= poor likeness.

They definitely have room for improvement, but their variety of offerings is pretty admirable. I hope we see some fine tuning of the sculpting with some of the subsequent waves.

Great post about the digital sculpting, I didn't know that. It does explain a lot of the aesthetic.

Still, digital or not, I can't believe I am actually getting my dream action figures this year (JAWS).

I far from hate these things, I love that this is happening, just think a minimal effort would make them irresistible.

I take it that Nostromo playset is a fan project? Looking at some of the text on the box...

Nice inspiration, though. I have a couple of SW Kenner bases that would make a nice Alien playset.

No, those are 6 inch I believe. I like the ReActions better, but those are pretty cool for what they are.
