I think I can safely say in the transition from Super 7 to Funko, that the whole "What would Kenner do?" concept was thrown out the window. They're attempting to ape the look but that's it.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

Not real sure the chestburster gag works on a static 5 point figure. Would have been cool to have a couple other crew members, and have the 'burster as a snap on accessory like the face hugger. Maybe they culd have sold a sx ack of just the hugger on a card.Comment

Hasbro does own Kenner, but has lost copyright on the logo's font. Both Neca and Super7/Funko have used it.
As for "Kenner never would have..." This is Funko, not Kenner. I think they're going for Kenner Aesthetic, but that doesn't mean they must be slavish to it.Last edited by Toy Timelord; Sep 22, '14, 2:28 PM.Comment

I can tell you from personal experience that there isn't much of a legal worry here. There is no "passing off" claim to be had and Funko is making it 100% clear on it's packaging that it is not a plaything.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

I still think the chestburster should have had a play action, little lever in the back to make it move in and out.Comment

I just thought it was odd that they were singling out Kenner in their advertising verbiage. I figure that ReAction pretty much sums up the Retro vibe and lets folks know why they are 5 point figures. It makes more sense with the Alien line, since Kenner originally had that license, but it starts to lose me with the other properties that Funko has chosen for this format.Comment

If they kept to licenses only available during the Kenner era, they'd not only be severely limiting themselves (as many of the licenses from that time are held by other companies), but also leaving money on the table.I just thought it was odd that they were singling out Kenner in their advertising verbiage. I think that this attitude of "Retro lines should only have retro licenses" is wrong. Venture Bros. is a great example. The figures are fantastic.Comment

Er,... I didn't say anything about retro lines and what licenses they chose. I was commenting on the use of the Kenner name in some of the product descriptions on the EE site. Not complaining about that, either. I just think it is interesting that they chose to use the name Kenner to represent an era of toy manufacturing. Mattel, Galoob, Tomy,Remco, Fisher-Price, ..... plus many others had 3 3/4 scale figures as well.If they kept to licenses only available during the Kenner era, they'd not only be severely limiting themselves (as many of the licenses from that time are held by other companies), but also leaving money on the table.
