I got the email from Super7 today about the black package preorder. I love the artwork, and it's tempting to pick up, but $100 + plus shipping is kind of on the high end I think.

I finally picked up a set of the blue carded figures, so I'm not gonna spend $100 for the black boxed playset that won't match the rest of my Alien stuff. I'm usually not that anal retentive about toys, but I'm drawing the line here.
I feel exactly the same way. The black packaging really detracts from the vintage vibe. I'm really torn on this.

To bad it's this expensive to make.
I'll just stick to the five original figures...

I will probably pre-order one. It is too cool, and I know I will regret it if I don't. Would be super awesome if they got enough pre-orders to have it made in plastic. The resin factor does bug me. Not enough to not buy one, but I would much rather have it be plastic.

Actually, these are all hand made. The tool alone for making the base injection was going to be $38,000 and that is before we inject plastic, print cardboard backers, print boxes, die-cut, assemble, ship on a boat and pay royalties. It was basically impossible to make this a production item that was affordable, but we wanted to make it, as we wanted it for ourselves. We worked through a variety of ways to make it and came back to a solution with a temporary mold we could pull off, but we could only make a few pieces before the molds were unusable, and it was expensive as hell. So instead of just talking about it, we went ahead and made it (in the US no less), but the costs were still crazy. For us it is a break even project, a labor of love. The idea that you could actually make a full blown retro base and cardboard for Alien is still a crazy idea. This is not a mass market item, it is a glorified fan project. So, yeah, it is limited, and expensive, but that is the nature of actually making something like this. It is not easy and it is not cheap to do. Sorry.

Well good news Guys, looks like Super 7 is going to be releasing these in the black box, heres the info from FB

In response to the unexpected outpouring of enthusiasm and support for the Alien Egg Chamber Playset, we are thrilled to offer this limited pre-order for the black box edition of the playset for fans of Alien and ReAction Figures everywhere. This version features the black packaging and a charcoal base with printed cardboard inserts with custom artwork. As this was originally a labor of love project for us here at Super7, we had no idea it would touch the hearts of as many fans as it has. Thank you so much for your support of Super7 and this crazy playset of ours, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do, and that we can continue to make special and unique items like this in the future for you. The Alien Egg Chamber Playset will be available for pre-order during all days of on site at SDCC and online at our website www.super7store.com. The pre-order will coincide with the show, and will only be available for pre-order from Wednesday July 23rd at 6pm through Sunday July 27th at 5pm. All playsets will be limited to the number of orders received and made to order. Playset bases will be made from hand cast resin unless enough orders are received to manufacture the bases in injection molded plastic. Delivery date for resin bases will be 3-4 months, and injection bases will be 6-7 months (hopefully faster) $100 each + $15 shipping (this is a really big box and base), available for pre-order from Wednesday July 21st at 6pm through Sunday July 27th at 5pm, quantities will be made to order.

Sounds about right. Please add shipping, customs, and a virgin sacrifice...

But let's face it; what's it really worth?
A plastic tray with the eggs (remember, it says "no figures included"), and a printed cardboard backdrop.
Unless we get a black box version at $40 max, I'm out!

Limited to an edition of 250 and $100?
    Terrific!

Unless they release a Black Box regular edition, that kills all the Alien Reaction fun for me...

I would have went in for it too. It doesn't look too hopeful that anymore will be available ever either. Bryan Flynn from Super 7 commented over in threads at rebelscum.com that don't give me much hope for playsets. I hate this modern economy in this distopia we all live in now. I want to hop into the first time machine I can and set it back to 1977. The Future Sucks! Lol

Yeah, if they would just offer this for sale to the general public in a larger production run, they would have had my money, even at $100. But I can't attend SDCC nor want to jump through hoops to get this at an inflated price from a scalper. *sigh* That is such a fantastically designed box too....

Does the top right corner say "ages 14 and up"?
I thought teenagers these days looked older than their age, but the ones on the photo look a bit younger...
