Toys R Us has done some stupid things but this takes the cake.

They got in a new 30th Anniversary Masterpiece Optimus Prime that retails for $130, and they stuck those wire security devices on every one of them and totally ruined the boxes. Every panel of every single box was crushed with the wire embedded in it.

There was a Transformer guy in the aisle going OFF...I mean he was LIVID.

They really have no clue how to deal with adults buying toys for themselves, and probably never will.

TRU seems to have this predestined desire to fail. They WANT to court our market, and then pull things like this.

Well at least it will make the non damaged boxes worth more right?

^I suppose that's one positive...the thing is, they had three of them, all damaged. You'd think the person putting the security devices on would notice the first time that "Ummm...gee, I'm ruinin' the box."

LOL. The Chattanooga TRU had two on the shelf, no security apparatus. I snagged both of em, they are freakin cool!

I like the Masterpiece one that came out a number of years ago better. This one looks nice of course. I think it looks a lot like the Marvel Comics version of Prime vs the old one looks more like the cartoon. They didn't have the wire security tag on the one I saw here at my Toys R Us but I've seen that tag on various other tf's like Masterpiece Soundwave and Grimlock vs Bruticus.

Hey enyawd, is there more than 1 TRU in your area? I would visit other branches and see of they also did this. I'm willing to bet not every one of them did. TRU is a stupid Co. and makes really bad decisions; I will agree. I bet the person who did this, at that branch, did it on purpose as a big middle finger to collectors. Some TRU employees know full well collectors buy these things and they hate collectors.

Unfortunately, that's a total crap shoot as well. I bought one of the DC Universe vs. Masters of the Universe Classics Bizzaro vs. Faker Toys 'R Us exclusives from their online store, and it arrived in rough shape. Seemed to be pretty common as a lot of people over at He-Man.org posted about similar issues. It really sucks because in mint condition that particular set is going for $150-$200 on ebay now.

I actually have no interest in buying one of these...I started this thread because I felt so bad and angry for those that did.
If what you say is true Johnmiic, that's really messed up.
