I have absolutely zero faith in these guys putting out any new product at this point. It's been silent for far too long.

I believe the question was asked during their C/A customs panel and they mentioned Fall 2014 but no other details.

An email from Round 2 to a CA collector said they have no plans for CA.

I believe Round 2 is not going to produce the DC sets or any other CA product.

If you go to Round 2's website, it appears they have no plans for anything. They haven't updated since spring.

Looks like Zica, GoHero, and Tonner are where we're headed. Bah.

Just had a terrifying thought: What if the DC sets will be coming from GoHero, and will cost a bloody fortune?

You could definitely infer that from the press release:

Not surprising at all. And it fits with the continued distrust the consumer has come to expect from CAE. They string people along based on some misguided notion they have an image to uphold. And it's all because CAE tries to walk in bigger shoes than they can fill. They're a go-cart dealership trying to advertise like their competing with Mercedes (and no one is buying it). They run a social media site that advertises everyone's product except their own. And when people inquire into their product, they either ignore them or respond with contempt, which just pushes people away. It also goes without saying when they get called to the mat for not delivering as advertised, they play semantics in trying to cover it up by suggesting they never had any plans other than what is present. So it's very sad to see grown men take no ownership for their own actions. It's a pitifully smug attitude to have when everyone sees you face down in the mud and you're the last to notice.

                That's a shame.

The more recent CA Spiderman and Captain America were great, in my opinion.

Actually, that's probably the BEST thing that could happen Prof. Not only will the sets be more likely to actually get made, but the quality will be much higher.

LOL...yeah, they should change the name of their hero to Captain Inaction and his sidekick B.S. Boy.

I'm fine with it. Let it languish for 5 years and then let someone else take the license, and pick up where Playing Mantis left off, replicating the original designs for Spiderman, Batman, Aquaman, etc.

At which point there will be 3 people still alive who care enough to buy them ...

If a toy is cool enough it should sell on it's own merits.

As much as we'd like to think otherwise, this type of toy just doesn't appeal to kids anymore on a large scale. Sure, there are exceptions, and I suspect a few parents bought them for their kids because of the nostalgia factor, but based on the tepid response at my local TRU to both the Mattel Retro heroes and the Captain Action line, I suspect the vast majority of those sold were to adults in our demographic. Sadly, they'll probably never again be more than a "niche", collector's line, and the longer we go without a new release, the fewer potential buyers will remain.

So very true. And you know it's not like we haven't been a patient consumer. We've listened to many a loud proclamation of what their next step to 'fame and fortune' would be, only to see it never come to fruition or be a mere shadow of what was advertised. Now they're promising "museum quality" figures? Uh...... Yeah. I often wonder what they get juiced up on just to make statements like that with a straight face.

But I think what really begs the question is what happened to their DC license agreement? I mean lets think about this. They made the announcement about DC back at the Toy Fair in 2012 when TRU was still the primary distributor of their goods. Just prior to that, they had been slapped on the wrist for advertising a Rocketeer outfit without having the rights to the deal secured. So here we are two years down the road and there remains no strong evidence (outside of package prototypes) that anything was ever made, even at the prototype level, to go into production. So who knows how long that deal has been dead?

^Not only that, but the prototypes they DID show used DC Direct's 13" figures in place of actual product. That's pretty shady if you ask me. Like pasting a picture of a Mustang over top of the Pinto you're actually selling.
