Captain Action Round 2 New York Toy Fair 2014

I'd continue the old thread, but I can't find it. No on-hand examples, but Bats and a detailed breakdown in this article...

A little while back, our friend Ed Catto wrote about the beginnings of the Captain Action Batman figure. Now, with Toy Fair 2014 in full swing (mucho coverage all week!), we have an EXCLUSIVE behin…

So it's Batman, Superman, Brainiac, Joker with BAF for Aquaman.

Meanwhile, Round 2 is finalizing new packaging prototypes and looking to return to Toys R Us with DC and the Aquaman build a figure series.

It appears that they are wisely opting not to repro the origina, but to create a new version that evokes the era.

On the plus side, I think it was wise not to do any reproduction outfits and update the figures.
I think giving the suits and box art a retro feel while trying to bring CA into the present was a smart
direction given that they had already tried the alternative in their previous incarnation.
Meanwhile, I'm surprised they bothered to go to toy fair at all. They are way too much tell and
not nearly enough show. Their news story on, I think it was AFI, was sad. I've read other threads
here about this line and some comments have summed up Round 2's problems better than I can.
I want to see the Batman more than any other Captain Action costume, repro or otherwise, but
I don't expect to ever be able to buy it.
Oh sorry, the article was from Figures.com. Can't wait for those ID holders!

If advertising never required a fulfillment date, CAE would have this market cornered. This current product line was introduced back in... Fall of 2012?

Call me weird, but I enjoyed the PM line more. I can't afford originals, but I really like the aesthetic of them. I also enjoyed "playing" with the PM figures more. The bodies were leaner, the accessories were well made, and didn't slip off. I dislike the Round 2's Spider-Man gloves. His wrists are like Popeye's thick forearms. I just like the poseability of the old style figures more.

That said, I would still buy this updated Batman.

Well, I badly want Aquaman, so they had better make the rest! lol

I recall how disappointed I was in the '90s when Kenner cancelled their cool Inner Sanctum playset as part of The Shadow film line.

I think we're all going to be disappointed with R2 Captain Action. Being able to snag such great licenses and quality designs and then not backing it up with quality or production is criminal IMO.

I am pleased with all the Marvel heroes released so far... Spiderman, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Iron Man and Wolverine... Granted that they slipped some release dates, but I'll rather have them late than never have them. I have them all so far and they look great all together... I'm looking forward to the DC Heroes now as that is my favorite heroes universe. They had delivered so far so I don't have any reasons to believe that they won't with the DC heroes...

I've been using all of these on PM bodies, and all except the Iron Man worked well.

I like the PM CA line far better than the Round 2 line. I had/have the Ideal originals and they are the best. PM comes in second doing an excellent job- I love the retro packaging , reminds me of seeing them in the store when I was 9 years old! I wish R2 had gone with the same bodies that pm did, and pm brought back Action Boy, which R2 apparently has no interest in doing.
I do hope the Superman & Batman sets actually come out and we can get them. They have the DC license, it would be criminal of them not to use it. The PM CA line would have really taken off if they had the DC license and they would have done a great job on it.

I could not agree more. The tailoring, articulation, and play value of the PM was tops in my book.

I have every piece PM put out, including several of the Phantom retro costume sets. I also thought they made a quality outfit and figure. I really enjoyed the retro packaging for both the figure and costumes. I do think the head molds were a little soft on the facial features though, so that gave the Captain a strange, almost androgynous, kind of appearance. But what ultimately did in that line were the very issues that conspire to doom this one - Massive production delays, shifting price points, and a constant change in presentation. Add to that quality issues with the outfits and figure, it's not a product line I have much faith in now. I no longer read their marketing shtick because it's all a play on semantics. If something ever shows up, then I'll check it out. Until then, there are plenty of other companies (FTC, BBP, Neca, Zica, EMCE, Hot Toys, and more) who are putting out plenty of licensed product that have my full attention.

Yep, I like the line in any format, but I really don't care to hear the plans.. I stopped paying attention to this line a while back hoping one day I would just see a thread about some new ones released. Thats the important news, tell me when they are ready to order. I mean that directed at Round2, not anyone here that posts about the line.
My posts were needlessly deleted ...

Any news on the DC line from these guys at SDCC? I have a sneaking suspicion that it's being dropped in favor of a standalone CA line, which would be a huge mistake, IMO.
