I really didnt like the new designs on the thundercats toy either. Now the Classics were really nice though. Really wish they could have continued with that at least till all the main characters were completed. The different sizes was mostly bad because it can be hard to find a certain character when you wanted it. I think Mum-ra and Wily Kit and Wily cat were the only sculpts I liked from the anima versions

Growing up I was able to frequently get joes the easiest to. Transformers were more of a christmas and birthday toy. I collected them from '84 to '87 and ended up with a decent collection only because I concentrated on them.

My main collecting toys were usually MOTU (up to '86), MOTU knockoffs, Joes, and Go-bots. It never failed for someone to give me a gobot thru-out the year.

I miss my G1 Transformers but they are so expensive i doubt i could re-collect them.

My son liked it okay, but his interest in it soon died off. CN seems to have a bad habit of not supporting their own (WB) properties. The initial push is all they get.

That's a bummer to hear. I really wanted to see it. I assumed the Cartoon Network just kind of killed it like they do everything else. I don't get the CN so I was waiting for dvd or something. Maybe I wont bother.

I believe it's on a few different dvds.
I hate the Pastel Japanese Animation of the toon myself. Similar to Young Justice, which is another toon I just can't see past the "Toonami" Look with Blah Colors.

The Direction and Character themes of the Cats in this New Toon are a lot different as well.

I actually DID like that cartoon Alot, .... as well as the Figures, which I have most, And am in the Minority , but I really did like alot of the Designs, Because they did imo Keep them looking somewhat like the Classic Characters. It was Fast, Bright and Did pay Homage a Ton to Everything Classic. Skeletor/Kildor was my Favorite on that Cartoon too. I liked how they Really Explored his character, with his Interaction with Randor and how He became Skeletor. I liked it alot, and the King GreySkull Episode was Fantastic.

I guess I look at things differently than other collectors. I found the whole club eternia deal preposterous. A complete insult. Pay upfront for a year of figures so Mattel, the company that makes Hot Wheels and Barbie, will produce a line without having to take any risk. These people must sit in a big office and just try to think of what else they can do to make collectors look ridiculous. Soon you'll be able to pre-pay for a figure and then go over to China and mold the thing yourself so Mattel doesn't have to pay the 38 cents a day labor cost. I guess it does go to show though, when they invested their own money in the Retro Action line they produced the cheapest, crappiest figures they possibly could and at least when they play with the consumers money upfront they put out a decent product. I guess it's the least they could do. As for He-Man vs T-Cats if T-cats had come out first I think they would have exceeded the MOTU line. I thought the cartoon was much better. MOTU had a firm grip on kids and a ton better marketing, most likely because Mattel was a much bigger company than LJN. If Mattel had done T-Cats and LJN MOTU Club Eternia would be Club Thundera. IMHO.

Retro's weren't designed by the 4-Horsemen Either.
... Smaller Companies really need Pre-Orders to be able to survive in todays Market...., Case in point Castaway and Zica. ... SideShow Uses a Ton of them with thier Lines and Hot Toys Figures you can pay on, and use Flex Payment Plans on thier site , then are charged the Last Payment when the Item is ready to ship, It's kinda nice for Large cost Items.

I am not someone who got on any of the Mattel Clubs.
I need Alot more show of Product, before I would Commit to a Line I bought and didn't know what was coming. As Far as the Playset Goes, I was Never really 1 for Playsets as Much as I was the Figures or even Vehicles. There's really no Appeal for me.

RAH Was far more popular in my areas of living than MOTU Ever was. RAH was also far cheaper, and you had endless, endless Vehicles that rivaled Star Wars.

ThunderCATS came Last. ... as far as 80's popularity Goes. Sure there was crap like Silver Hawks, and The Centurions that Came Afterwords, but as far as Big Guns Go ..., But the CAT's were really not even a Blimp on the Radar Like RAH, MOTU & Transformers.

Transformers were more so the Rich Kids Toys.
I myself only had About 5 of them. ( I still own all 5, and most all the parts to all too) And it was really like that with all my Friends. We had a Couple of "Only" Kids in the Neighborhood, and in Both Cases, they Both Had Endless Transformers , with little Else...., where as we had 7or8 MOTU, 20 Joes, a Couple Cats a few Super Powers and So Forth.

Must have been different out here on the east coast....Thundercats were Huge right along with MOTU,Transformers & GI JOE....

Thundercats were pretty popular I'll say, It's just that Joe, MOTU, and Transformers were EXTREMELY popular. (Really depending on certain years, of course) The original Thundercats cartoon did well in sydication from what I remember.
