Not sure it is hard to collect. Just expensive. Nothing is really rare. I think the company got burned on the 200X thing. And it really isn't a mass market line. The two packs they released at TRU are still collecting dust in my area. I am sure there are countless threads about this on heman.org.
    I like toys.

UPDATE: CASTLE GRAYSKULL has met the production goal and will move forward. Pre-order remains open through January 4th. If you haven't gotten onboard yet, or would like to see Snake Mountain next, I suggest placing a pre-order while there is still time.

Interesting to see the reactions on this. I understand the need to see if the customer base is there, but part of me thinks a billion dollar corporation like Mattel either needs to crap or get off the pot too. The constant begging is just a little unbecoming to me from such a humungous outfit. You don't see McDonald's asking folks to pledge to buy so many McRibs so they'll bring it back. It's an interesting business model they have running there. I'm not saying it's completely wrong, it's just a bit...odd.

I guess Mattel knows what there doing. My view is basically that the line already has a sizable backlog and they could "test the waters". There isnt much in stores for the fantasy fan these days. I think REALLY what annoys me is I wish He-Man was popular again like he was when I was 10.

Heck, Thundercats really didnt even do all that hot in retail.

^Thundercats was never as popular as He-Man. They can claim it was...but it wasn't. It was popular, sure, but He-Man was a phenomenon. Only GI Joe RAH and Transformers came close to matching MOTU's popularity in the 80s.

I think Bandai killed their Thundercats line by putting too much product out too quickly. The different scales confused consumers.

Despite all of Mattel's shenanigans, it's got to be a great time to be a MOTU collector. In this day and age the only playsets you ever see are mainly Star Wars. I hope these get made for those that want them.

^Yep. If Mattel made a Batcave or Hall of Justice in scale with the DCUC figures, I'd probably bite...even at that price. I'd gripe about pre-ordering it, but I'd probably cave.

RAH Was far more popular in my areas of living than MOTU Ever was. RAH was also far cheaper, and you had endless, endless Vehicles that rivaled Star Wars.

ThunderCATS came Last. ... as far as 80's popularity Goes. Sure there was crap like Silver Hawks, and The Centurions that Came Afterwords, but as far as Big Guns Go ..., But the CAT's were really not even a Blimp on the Radar Like RAH, MOTU & Transformers.

Transformers were more so the Rich Kids Toys.
I myself only had About 5 of them. ( I still own all 5, and most all the parts to all too) And it was really like that with all my Friends. We had a Couple of "Only" Kids in the Neighborhood, and in Both Cases, they Both Had Endless Transformers , with little Else...., where as we had 7or8 MOTU, 20 Joes, a Couple Cats a few Super Powers and So Forth.

As far as Bandi and the Cats go ...
Well, I hate to say I Told you so, but I did. Thats what Happens when you re-invent the Wheel, and the New Cats designs were Horrible Since day 1. It never Boasted Well with 2000x MOTU, AND isn't doing well in the New 52. Hell, Fanboys don't even like that crap in most Movies either. Topped off with a Doomed to Fail CTN Only Toon ( We all know how they do things) it was short lived like Expected.

Bandi Could have really took a Lesson outta Mattel's book, and Made the Origional Cats Online Exclusives..., But Really, if Mattel Woulda Gotten that Line, Like Fan Bys Wanted, The 4 Horsemen Would still be making that Line Strong like the MOTU Classics. Bottom line it. Even though Bandi's Cats were really the Best Action Figures Made by the Company, they are not Even Close to DCU Classics, and MOTU Classics.

Transformers were indeed cost-prohibitive. You had to have a built-up allowance, or a birthday or Christmas to swing anything beyond the mini-cars. I had tons of those. I remember getting Optimus Prime and thinking I had hit the lottery.

Part of the appeal with RAH was you could con your parents into picking you up a new character on almost every trip to the store. They put out so many a year. Easy to build a really nice collection. MOTUs were a bit higher, and with less selection, but I still had all the MOTU stuff up until 1986.

Mattel would have done well with a Thundercats Classic line, as you said. Too bad it didn't go down that way.

I have the original Castle Greyskull. I no longer have all the parts but it displays nice and is one of my favorite playsets along with Ghostbusters HQ. If I collected the Classics line, I'd just display with the original.

The Thundercats revival was killed by the horrible new cartoon. It was about as a generic anime as you could get with the Thundercats names plastered on it. Just terrible.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

That's a bummer to hear. I really wanted to see it. I assumed the Cartoon Network just kind of killed it like they do everything else. I don't get the CN so I was waiting for dvd or something. Maybe I wont bother.
