MOTUC collectors: Are you pre-ordering Castle Grayskull?

I see AFI is covering the progress on this pre-order, with various parties pleading for folks to pre-order Castle Grayskull so it can go into production. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about that, but I was wondering how the MOTUC collectors here felt about the whole thing. I have managed to avoid temptation in collecting this line, but it was really hard. My love for my original Castle Grayskull runs deep, so I know the nostalgia power this playset has.

I still think the whole line needs to be put in stores since the molds are paid for.

Are there any pictures of the classics castle?

^It hasn't been sculpted yet, pending the pre-order goes through. They've shown drawings, and a full-scale 2D foamboard mock-up to my knowledge, and that's it.

        Not getting it.
        I haven't boughten a Figure all year.
They shoulda made the line more avalible than the Continuous Fake Sell Outs and Fights. It just made the line Tiresome, and I got Burnt out. If I see some of the Key characters I wanted, I would possiby purchase them, but my overall Love for the Line as a Whole as Dropped, and interests Changed. I think Mattel Ruined this line, as well as DCU Classics. I have only bought 1 of them, since they went to the Subscription. I have Damn Near Every One Prior. Thats Thousands I have spent alone.

Not ordering one and MOTU is one of my all time fav toy lines. I'm tired of dealing with Matty collector and I'm tired of doing Mattel's heavy lifting for them. $250 a year in advance and all the have to show for it is a foam board cut out. They expect all the tooling, sculpting, etc paid for in advance by collectors before they'll consider doing any work on it. To heck with that.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I wouldn't order it even if they did have actual pictures instead of drawings. 1) I don't have that kind of money to spend on it. I would have to cut out most of the rest of my collecting just to get the darn thing. $250 + shipping cost could buy me quite a few other items. 2) I wouldn't have anywhere to display it if I did buy it.

Eh, it's the current business model. I think it's amazing they are doing any of this, including attempting the playset. I'm glad that the things I like well enough to collect don't have such a massive cast of characters, but if I were a MOTU fan this would probably make me happy. I get not being able to afford something you want and the irritation that causes. It happens to me pretty much daily, but that's a part of life for folks with passions such as ours. That said, haven't people been clamoring for this for years, with Mattel repeatedly stating that it would be in this price range? Like I said, I don't collect MOTU, but I've considered buying this just because of its scale and how surprised I am that they are even doing it (well, attempting it).

I stopped get the subscription service last year, but I ordered this the 1st day it was up. When do ever get the chance to have a massive playset built for a collector audience. I think people that are into MOTU and don't get one will regret it when they are $500 on ebay.

I'd want actual photos of it before I shelled out $250.. Interestingly, BBTS is selling it for considerably more.

You'll be able to see it before shelling out the money. All Mattel has done is replace their wholesale and retail partners with consumer partners. There are plenty of toys which many of us salivate over that never made it past toy fair because the orders for them didn't warrant the risk. To me, anyone who cares even a whit about MOTU is incredibly lucky to be living during a time in which they don't have to rely on the dying retail chains. Would that I could get such high quality toys of the chracters I dig.

I 100% agree. It is a pre-order and you don't have to pay until it ships. With the love they have put into MOTUC I think $250 will be a steal for this playset.

It is amazing they do this at all. They aren't really making any money from the mattycollector division of the company.

Oh, they must make money. It's just not the kind of profit Mattel is used to making these days. I'm sure it's the sort of money that many smaller companies would find acceptable, but the majority of those are privately held, and of course lack the IP.

Exactly. Just in the grand scheme of a a large toymaker....that division is not a huge earner.

But couldnt they make a much larger profit by not making it so hard to collect?
If they were to test the waters in retail with, say, the original wave 1 (in MOTUC form) from the early eighties, this line could do very well.
They wont know unless they tried. The 200x isnt much of a indicator of interest. I wasnt even to fond of that line. I didnt like the sculpts. The cartoon was cool though.
