I've put together a nice collection of Hot Toys figures over the past five years, but the prices are beginning to creep up on some of the new figures like the '89 Joker. I just got a deck installed in our backyard that is 18 feet out and 22 feet across. The labor on that was $1.200.00. When you can trade in four Hot Toys figures to pay labor on a deck, there is a problem with that price point. I love them, make no mistake. But for that kind of money, a "collect them all" attitude is off the table. I will only go after ones I REALLY want. The Avengers Iron Man looks like one I will likely have to have. The Keaton/Batman was my last purchase and I love him. He's a real conversation piece, so he's well worth the money. He sits on my office desk where I can look at him anytime work is kicking my butt. And, just like with Jack Sparrow, photos don't do him justice.

I don't really understand why Hawkeye and Fury are more expensive than an Iron Man (who has much more elaborate tooling), apart from "we want your money and lots of it..."

How much do ya think I could get for these on ebay? Would it be enough for a Hot Toys figure? I know they cost---wait for it---an arm and a leg!!!

I am speaking from a Euro point of view. I can still get Iron Man here at conventions for like $250 (which is supercheap here), while the new Hawkeye and Fury are pre-ordered for around $260.
I'm hoping to score a Thor at a convention, and I'll be happy with just him, IM and Cap.
If I'd want to get an IM through Ebay here, I'd probably have to shell out something like $350. Without shipping and customs...

The price climb on these is pretty high all things considered, but with their low production runs ( compared to mass market toys), there could be any number of factors at play here... From high licensing fees and percentage cut for a ridiculously and increasingly top heavy company like Marvel/Disney for Avengers, to whatever might have been needed to broker a deal with the actor for his/her likeness. I can't imagine Nicholson would have been an inexpensive deal for example.

Just think that you are spreading your licensing fee across tens of thousands of individual unit items rather than millions or hundreds of thousands that Hasbro will be producing.

Plus, I think we've all seen the leaps and bounds that they have made in quality of their product over the years along with those price increases.

Just tossing out a possible reason... Alternatively Hot Toys are just money grubbing greedy bastiches.

The Truth is probably somewhere in between.

I had assumed it would be cheaper to have the wife buy directly from the Hot Toys show room in Shinjiku. No such luck, but I guess we did save shipping costs as the trade off of her lugging this giant purple Nicholson filled toy brick around the airports as her carry-on.

I'm beginning to think that'll be the only option to buy the occasional HT. I'm going to start keeping an eye out on Ebay US instead of the overpriced Ebay over here...
