Any chance of DC characters? You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Comment

If I'm not mistaken, and this may not really matter, but the separate outfits for $29.99 are the "deluxe edition" outfits, and they come with extra accessories plus the Build A Figure Hawkman outfit pieces. The regular editions will come with a figure and the "regular" outfit.Comment

I'll look for it. I was really confused early on by the term "deluxe edition" in the promo material online. But after a little digging that's what I sussed out (deluxe edition vs. standard/regular). Some of that info may even be on the boards here, but I'll look for the link I read online that helped clarify it for me.Comment

This probably doesn't help much, but this earlier thread discussed the difference in sets as well (the CA Facebook page had a pic of the "regular" Captain America on it awhile back):

The "deluxe" outfits come with an extra mask that is the secret identity of the hero. So it's one extra piece of rubber. And then you get one other accessory to help START a "Hawkeye" outfit. But you have to buy all the other character outfits in this series and the next to get that Hawkeye costume. So let's do the math... That's $30.00 X 4 (Spidey, Cap, Thor, and Iron Man sets) to get you one more outfit. So you get five outfits for $120.00 plus shipping on those over-sized boxes. Not good for shipping rates! That likely lands you at least another $30.00. So your out $150.00 for five cloth outfits and masks... and a mountain of disposable cardboard they all come in.If I were them, I would give serious consideration to toning down the price. Guys you already got the Cap figure in a freakin' shadow box. Do we really need his costumes set up the same way?
Their doing EXACTLY what Playing Mantis did. Oh well... fool me once, shame on you...

Not to split hairs, but the Captain America deluxe set also comes with the triangular shield. I don't plan on buying any deluxe sets as the build-a-figure concept has never appealed to me. I will buy regulars of the figures that I love, like Spidey and Iron Man.Comment

I would love the Captain Action line to run for many years - he is my favorite action figure. But I have to agree that the high pricing will prevent that. I'm sure I'm not the only one who cannot afford the prices that have been mentioned thus far.
When PM revamped the line in retro packaging similar to the Ideal originals the prices were much more reasonable. Whereas TRU was selling CA and DE for $29.99 each, the retro packaged figures were $18.99. And the uniform sets were $9.99 to $11.99. But as already stated, the change came too late.
The prices for the new line will stop it from selling well at TRU and it will be dependent on collectors with a lot of money to keep it going.
I hate to say it because I love Captain Action, but the prices are way too high. If they don't get lowered the line will run through 2012 and thats it.
I am not a Marvel fan. Spider-Man And Captain America are ok but I have no interest in other Marvel characters.
I keep hoping they will get the DC liscense and bring back Action Boy, but realistically I do not see the line lasting long enough for that to happen. The whole focus is entirely on Marvel only, with no mention of bringing Action Boy back.
I hope I'm wrong- but I think the high prices assure the new CA line will have a very limited run.
At least the TRU versions should be priced like the retro PM ones were.Comment

I think what many forget is Captain Action has largely always been more of a cult favorite among collectors, than a commercially viable product from the past. The original Ideal line was not all that successful. But the kids who did have him, LOVED him. So the fan base grew from there. Playing Mantis had a golden opportunity to do something with that group in his second incarnation, but had too many pricing and distribution problems to keep the consumer.
Interestingly, when Castaway got the license to make the character in the 8 inch format, he seem to do pretty well. Now, of course, I'm blindly making that assessment based on the figure staying in circulation (and in several different incarnations) for a few years. Castaway producing the figure seem to make better sense too, because their production would likely meet with demand more so than plugging him on shelves in commercial outlets all across the country. The figure looked good, was made well, and more importantly, was priced right.
Now we have many of the same faces behind the original Playing Mantis reissue trying a go at the 12 inch version again. Unfortunately old lessons die hard. We'll see. But I have to agree with levyguy. If they don't lower the cost of the costumes considerably, this line will dry up quickly.Comment

$65 for a dead-on comic accurate 60's Spider-Man or Captain America? I'll GLADLY pay that, and so will many, many others.
Honestly, a bunch of people on here spend more than that on customs, so what's the problem?Comment

Honestly, all this griping about the price is getting old. $30 for an outfit and $35 for a figure is STILL only $65. ANY Sideshow 12" figure will cost you minimum $90 and any Hot Toys 12" figure is at least $140.

I would think the deluxe sets will be limited, and the standard sets will have higher numbers. Just guessing though.Comment

I am unemployed and broke. I cannot afford anything at this point. Just as the vintage Ideal figures and uniform sets MIB are priced so high I will never be able to afford them it is very discouraging to me that the new Captain Action series will be too high priced so it is a very big deal to me that the pricing is that high. Captain Action is my favorite childhood toy! Any happiness is seeing the line revived is killed by the knowledge I will not be able to afford to get it.
There are millions of unemployed people in this country. I can't even pay my rent!
My hope is that the CA line will be a success and have a long run so when I eventually can get a job the line will still be around for me to get. Otherwise it will end up on ebay at even higher prices and still be beyond my reach.
This country is in a recession. Money is very tight for most people. The TRU versions will have to have a lower , more reasonable price point, or the line won't last more than a year.Comment
