Captain Action figures and costumes delayed until 2012

According to Amok Time, they have been informed the new Captain Action figures and costumes will be delayed until April 2012. Hmmmmm. Perhaps to coincide with the Avengers film that comes out that May? If that is the case, it may be a smart move.

I am excited and worried about this line. I really want the CA stuff to take off, and the lack of PR and news (until now) has had me very concerned.
I hope it all comes together and a blitz occurs with the next wave of hero movies.

It's all conjecture on my part, but it sure seems like alot of lines got wiped out or delayed this year due to some serious problems on the manufacturing side. Perhaps we can add this series to that list? I'm not sure. Then again maybe it's just a strategic move to be released closer to the Avengers film. Either way, we'll have to wait. Too bad. I was really looking forward to that line as a Christmas gift under my tree this year. Oh well.

From the Captain Action Yahoo Group last month:

        Hey Gang,

Over the past few days, we had to make a tough decision. We're going to have delay Wave I of the new Captain Action line from being released this holiday season and push it back to March of 2012. We're generally bummed out, but the choice came down to (1) we rush to fix some quality issues and get it out by Christmas or (2) we take our time to ensure that the quality is where it must be.

On one hand, everyone on this list has been waiting years for new product and waiting more is just too painful. We certainly understand that. One the other hand, we know that no one on this list wanted anything that wasn't of top-notch quality. And that's what we've been wrestling with. Some of the little things just haven't been up to snuff. Are we picky? Are we perfectionists? Damn right we are. And we know you are too.

Let us pull back the curtain and let you know how we're going to fix these problem. Next week, a very senior manager of the toy group is going to spend 2 weeks in China focusing on this issue. And we've also hired a new tooling development engineer in China. They will be working very closely over the next two weeks, and beyond. This should ensure that we're on track for exciting, high quality toys.

And our plan is to have 3 waves of product in 2012, (March, June/July and October) so we'll be on track for a very collectible line. We are still will doing this without making it too big & expensive for many of us to afford. And just so you know, we're also keeping the prices where we have set them all along. No price increases.

We wanted you guys to know first. We're letting retailers know right now too. We'll put a press release to the general public late in the week. But you're the core and deserve to know about this delay and the reasons behind it.

We're frustrated, but we know this was the right thing to do. We hope you all agree.

        Best,
        Ed and Joe

Better to wait for quality for sure. And the Avengers and Spider-Man movies next summer can't hurt sales either!

Joe and Ed are good guys. Now I think they're going thru what a bunch of other good guys have experienced in the recent past.

I'm new to collecting figures - and already got sucked into the CA line and placed a pre-order.

my only concern with this line is the price point. yes, the serious collectors will buy them....but are there enough of those to keep the line going? I don't think so

If they really try to get these to Toys R Us,the line won`t last long at all with those expensive prices. It`s a shame I really wanted at least series 1.

I think they will sell very well. Either way if they don't I think they will be very collectible in the future. I would love to see some X-men ones. Maybe a Wolverine, Magneto, Storm. Just putting it out there.

I share that same concern. Especially with the costumes. Because, anyway you package it, it's still just a piece of cloth in there with a few accessories. They get too over the top on the pricing because they want to fancy up the package, this line will die out fast. There should be some lessons taken from the Playing Mantis run. That company over packaged CA in the beginning and stuck a big fat price tag on him. Then they made fans buy the figure each time with a different outfit. By the time they got the packaging and pricing corrected, the customer base had lost interest. This time around, their not giving you the figure with the costume, but packaging and pricing it nearly as much as the figure itself! Sorry. That won't work. Word to the wise - Earn your business. If you come in pricing accessories like figures, you've already set yourself behind the eight ball. Especially in this economy. Their neat looking and the buzz is cool. But common sense affordability needs to be part of that equation when your a new company revamping old product. And remember, like Playing Mantis, you only get one shot to make a good first impression. No one listens after that point, even when you get it right (which they did).
