I think I've just about had it with Mattel. Since the middle of last year they have made a lot of bad moves that has led me to lose faith in the company as a whole.
Strike 1: The release of the Mego-esque figures.
The excitement I had when I saw these in the package was quickly dash away when I opened it up and realized that it was a flimsy $20 rip-off. Usually, when someone brings a style back, they make it better, not make a thing that's even more useless than other useless pieces of plastic that I collect. Although I know that people collect and keep figures in packages, I think that Mattel forgot that a good number of collectors take their stuff out of for display (that's what she said).
Strike 2: The Masters of the Universe Classics Series.
This was another thing that was a major let down not completely because of the figures themselves (although there are some loose joints here and there). The real problem was, and still is the lack of availability of these. They basically discourage a lot of people from getting a chance to purchase these unless it's through an online sale. A real insult to injury is that unless you're part of their little club thing you can't get certain figures... and they only allowed the chance to join this club about a couple years ago, but for people like me, who only found out about this series about half a year ago, It's impossible, unless you by it through someone on ebay who jacks the price up to an unfair price. That goes the same with the GhostBuster figures.
Strike 3: The over all flimsiness of the recent DC universe figures.
This only happened last week. I picked up the Low/Maash figure from the GL series. The torso was loose, and the price was outrageous. Stores have been slowly jacking up prices of these from $10 up to now $18, and the quality is getting worse. Needless to say, I got my money back.
So there are my reasons why I'm not going to buy from Mattel anymore. They have shown their true colors as a heartless toy company. Let me know if anyone else feels this way.
Oh yah, and that Matty collector mascot design just adds to it, with that mocking, duesh-bag smirk of his. It just ****es me off even more....
Sorry for the rant.
