    Ripping open my JLU's-should I or shouldn't I?

Okay, I have been trying to keep up with the Mattel JLU line but it's near impossible to find the ones I need. I also am sonically aware that I will probably have to buy 36 more Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman figures to get the figures I need, as they mostly come packed with duplicate heroes. So...

I am debating scrapping collecting them on the card and ripping them all open to set up a loose display. This way I can seek out the individual figures I need to complete the collection without being forced to buy multiple -packs with duplicates of the Big 3. I also reason that even the cards they come on are so different that there's little motivation to hang them on the wall as they don't match anyway. Sounds like I made up my mind already right?

Wrong. I am sitting here prepared to rip one open and I don't have the guts! I need you guys to either keep me from ripping them open or to push me over the edge and tell me to open them! I'm worried they will lose value if I tear them open but at the same time I don't think there's any 3-packs that I have that can be considered valuable, not to the point where it would prevent me from opening them.

So what should I do? Have a party and spend the evening ripping all my JLU's open or be a good carded collector and leave them alone?

Have a party, and if you know any kids invite them! They can have the duplicate figures.

I had the same problem with my DCUC Classics, but I got them to make build a figures. So I got my niece and nephew to help me out.

Let them free! Just looking at the stats, you will no longer find toylines from the past twenty years or so to skyrocket in value like they used to... too many collectors keep them in the package now. At best we're talking what? Three or four times it's value MIP? Open 'em.

Display them. Play with them. Enjoy them fully.

Yes samurainoir! That's what I figured, most of these modern toys aren't worth a dramatic amount more carded...certainly not like Mego/Super Powers proportions. Your rationale is exactly what's been going through my head! I need the wall space for carded Retros and Megos anyway and I think they would display better without all the Superman, WW, and Batman figures.
Thanks for your advice! I have a feeling most people will say something similar. I may keep a couple of the cardbacks to use for display behind the loose figures.

Although undecided, I am leaning towards ripping them open...otherwise I probably wouldn't be sitting here with this 3-pack in my hands! LOL!

I'm in the same boat. I've been thinking of selling my collection off. Been there since day one but have missed a few over the years. Have not bought any since I lost my job. Been wondering what to do.

i've ripped mine open as well. i dont think they're going to be worth anything of significant value other than a particular figure or two.

When I sold mine off, there were few that went right away. And then there were some that sold as soon as I dropped the prices. Three price drops later, I still had packaged multi-packs, some of which didn't have any repackaged figures. I needed the space, so they went to Toys For Tots. Open them and get some enjoyment out of 'em.

I open all of my figures. I still have totes full of 90s action figures I haven't opened, but all the new stuff I free. With so many people hoarding them, they are never going to bring what say a carded/boxed Mego will bring. And they take up a lot less space that way. The only downside to opening JLU figures is that the damn things barely stand.

I donated a bunch of my carded 90s figures to the local toy drive this fall. It struck me Christmas morning that a lot of kids were getting some good out of old figures I had just laying around. It was a great feeling!

                    Enjoy... I'm envious.

I'd also advise never collecting carded figs again... doesn't seem to make much sense, as you enjoy them opened, and if you're goin to
consider your money's gettin involved in investments, the wrong place
to do that is toys anyways....maybe mutual funds?!

No, collecting Super Hero toys is a passion of mine; the value is secondary to me. I was asking more because I was wondering if it would be worth it to trade various carded JLU figures for loose ones. Make no mistake, I buy toys because I love them. That's the driving force. I'm about to begin the slaughter. You're welcome to come over and help me huedell!

Okay guys! I opened them all, except that original Justice League assortment that started it all, the early blue cards. I figure those figures are plentiful in the 3 packs anyway.
I'm taking a pic of what I've got coming up in a few minutes. Lining them up now to take a pic. More to follow folks...

Okay here's what I wound up with. I do have Ultra Humanite but he is on the original blue card and I'll probably just a get a loose one. The top pic are the unique figures I wound up with, the second pic on the blue rug are the doubles I got. The double of Orion is a bit lighter than the one I have in the top pic but I'm staying away from repaints in the loose collection. Interesting that Sinestro doesn't have a yellow ring on. I also may have to get another Green Arrow to get his bow, Hawkgirl to get her mace, as well as Shining Knight's shield. I think those are the only major, glaring accessories I would want I think, unless you guys can think of anything else. Anyway, here we go...

You have a nice collection! I bet it was really awesome to just open them all up at once! I'm jealous. The only one in my collection I haven't opened is Batman with Wonder Pig. I have a million Batman figures anyway. I just wanted the pig.
