Because that's the original scale of the Captain Action figures and a lot of collectors probably would prefer them in their classic size.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Yeah, as much as folks our age love the 8" format, a large portion of 60s kids view anything under 12" as worthless.

There was some definite outcry among the vintage Captain Action community when the 8" CA figure was announced. They rely on re-releases like this for custom fodder and to introduce their kids and new collectors to the line, just like many of us do with the retro/repro Megos. I don't collect CA, but I think it's cool they're doing a re-release in the original scale. Now if only we could get some new SuperQueens and save me some work/money on customs. OOOo, since they're doing the Marvel license, how about some female characters, like Spiderwoman, Wasp, etc? Just hire Ray Flores, since we've already seen his awesome repros of the original SQ dolls.

According to CA Enterprises, the figures shown are rough prototypes. They are not representative of the final product.

The Spidey set shown was cobbled together out of existing toys.

The final will be completely new and based on the classic 60's look. As will the other sets.

Even CA will be given an overhaul with an improved body and head sculpt.

So, don't look at any of the NYCC pics as representative of the final product.

Yeah that Spidey suit is from the old 12 inch movie line figures. Those were just protos to give people an idea.

A Kid Action/Action Boy Bucky would be cool.

How much do they intend to charge for the outfits? Anybody know?

Well regarding price, I do hope the makers of this line are going to learn one of the big blunders from the Playing Mantis experience - Don't overprice the line. When that figure line originally came out, they were priced out of this world and stuffed in gaudy packaging to try and justify the cost. By the time they got the packaging and prices down, consumer interest was gone. I can see where the temptation will be there again to try and gauge collector interest after seeing some of these 8 inch figure lines coming out with eye popping $20 and $30 sticker prices. Don't fool yourself people. If they don't get a lid on some of these 8 inch prices (especially the $30.00 ones), you'll be looking at Hot Toy prices pretty soon for 12 inch figures. Trust me. They want to know how desperate you are to collect your childhood again and are banking you will drain your account for the privilege. Saying a figure looks good is not a justification to hike prices 55%. That's ridiculous.

                            Hey Actioneers!

As you know, the BIG SECRET is now out as we unveiled the new prototypes for our new Captain Action 12 inch figure line this past weekend at NY Comic Con with a huge amount of excitement and great responses from fans both at the show and here on line.

As we've been inundated with emails with all kinds of inquires, we'd like to take the opportunity to answer some of your most frequently asked questions...

                            1) Who is producing the toy line?

Round2Corp, the new incarnation of Playing Mantis will be producing these figures and uniform sets under their Forever Fun collectible line. They are excited to have Captain Action back and to be able to present him with the classic Marvel characters which you fans have been clamoring for, for a very long time.

                            2) When and where will these toys be sold?

The toy line will debut in the Fall of 2011 at Toys R Us starting with the Captain Action figure and a classic Amazing Spider-man uniform set. Wave 1 uniform sets subsequently will be Captain America , Thor and Iron Man. They will be found in the all new Collectors Aisle Toys RUs will be debuting next year in their stores. Besides Toys R Us, there will also be exclusives for comic shop retailers as well.

                            3) What versions of these Characters will the uniforms reflect?

In keeping with the Captain Action retro collectible tradition, these characters will be presented in their 1960s Silver Age glory.

                            3) How much are the figures and uniform sets going to cost?

Right now, we are looking at a price point of $29.99 for the figures and $19.99 for the uniform sets.

Exclusives will most probably be higher as they will have deluxe- styled packaging and additional bells and whistles.

                            4) Are the prototypes indicative of what will be released?

The prototypes just represent the basic direction we are looking to take. They are just simplified mockups produced in house for the purposes of getting the message across.

                            5) What updates will there be on the figures and the uniform sets?

As you can see we will not be reproducing the original Marvel Costume sets as they were, but rather will pay homage to the old styling in presentation as we update the look, and make the uniforms much more accurate to the comic book characters than was originally produced in the 60s. The Captain Action figure itself will have a new figure body which will be close in style to the original keeping up the great articulation that made Captain Action famous. We will be updating the look of CA's face with a more heroic facial sculpt and paint treatment making him look a bit more like his comic book self in the process. We will also be featuring pop off hands to allow for greater pose-ability with alternate styled hands and gloved hands that will snap into place over the forearms.

We will have more info and sneak peeks as we progress. In the meantime, keep all those cards and letters coming to us on Facebook , here and at the Captain's Blog where we are regularly communicating with you fans!
