^ 70s actually. I think the packaging above lists '77 as the copyright date. The Space Sentinels were part of one of those Filmation blocks weren't they (with Batman and Tarzan) or did they have their own show?

They had their own series actually, syndicated. I loved it as a kid, I would love to find the whole set of these but man, I doubt I ever do.

I just checked...It originally aired on NBC for one season, 77-78. Hercules later showed up as part of the Freedom Force, didn't he?

As horribly made and badly designed at they were, I actually liked Remco's Mighty Crusaders figures because the whole line was obscure. I had a few of the early-mid-80s Archie hero revival comics, so I knew who they were, but how many kids did?

Dr. Fate was one of my favorite Super Powers because I couldn't believe they actually made an Earth 2 JSA figure.

I don't recall Space Sentinels, although I do have vague recollections of Freedom Force.

I remembered the sentinals and I liked all those filmation shows back them. They were all cool.

I say one of the best vintage figures of an obsure character has to be Mera from the Ideal Comic heroine/Super Queens line from 1967. you can see a picture of my doll here it's the only section of my website that I've almost finished

I wish Mego had done Batgirl's mask as well as Ideal. That is so close to perfect.

Coincidentally, Filmation did both cartoons. But even though the Blackstar cartoon came out before the MOTU toys, the Blackstar toys actually weren't released until after the MOTU toys came out.

So Galoob was actually copying the MOTU toys and hoping to capitalize on MOTU's phenomenal success. Kind of like Remco with their VERY MOTU-ish Warlord, Warrior Beasts and Conan lines. The Blackstar cartoon had actually even been cancelled by the time the Blackstar toys came out.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Blackstarr toys were still cool. The series is available on DVD, and had a good idea, but suffered from typical 80's Saturday morning story writing.
