Woah---that's rough words for the Supergirl production crew.
I think your nostalgia for Super Powers versions of DC characters is overshadowing that that Brainiac appears to be a plastic robot akin to a human-size shoddier version of the Kenner action figure with a finish revealing more slop-paint than vac plastic, and a body that implies that Brainy has been indulging in a few too many snack breaks while bottling cities.
That's not to say it isn't a neat thing to see if you're a fan of the line.Last edited by huedell; Sep 21, '15, 7:55 PM."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Jeez, Hue. Let's be honest: As "mall costumes" from thirty years ago go, it's pretty spiffy. Actually, if that showed up even as modern cosplay, some fans--not you, obviously--might think, "Hey, SuperPowers Brainiac! Unusual. Nice job."
Spanx notwithstanding, I'd guess that Kenner didn't have a Robocop-sized budget for their promotional costumes.Last edited by PNGwynne; Sep 22, '15, 4:56 AM.WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

Exactly. You gotta give Kenner points for producing some plastic pieces which look metallic, as opposed to say carpet remnants with glitter on them. Red Tornado may look fine on screen, but that promo shot was unfortunate from the neck down.Spanx notwithstanding, I'd guess that Kenner didn't have a Robocop-sized budget for their promotional costumes.
But we're not talking about that, and I guess I shouldn't make funny asides, lest they be overexamined and picked apart.

I have always wondered what they do with the costumes from these events, the mall appearances, Six Flags, etc.Comment

Hey Chris, don't feel too bad about missing that appearance. I grew up in an area literally surrounded by gigantic shopping malls, toy stores, etc. (NYC metro), and I never even saw ONE of these type of things as a kid. Aside from Santa Claus and the easter bunny, I don't think I ever saw an adult in a costume outside of Halloween. I'm not sure how that's even possible, but it's the truth. Maybe it was more common in the midwest or something? It should be said that I was much more of a fantasy/swords & sorcery geek than a superhero/comics guy, so maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough. If I had run into someone dressed as Elric in the Willowbrook mall, I definitely would have noticed.
Anyway, that Braniac costume is very cool.Last edited by El Hombre Nuclear; Sep 22, '15, 9:30 AM.Comment
