what bike did you have?

My Dad bought my first bike at Sears, it was a regular one speed with coaster brakes- yellow with black stripes, black banana style seat with a yellow stripe (Steeler colors!).Had a low sissy bar on the back and those textured grip handles.
Mom told me I couldn't have one, but Dad bought it anyway. Pedalled it up to the top of our hill, flipped it over in the dirt, and busted open my knee which needed 6 stiches. I still have a scar.
Needless to say, Dad was in the doghouse for awhile & I didn't get to ride it too much for a couple weeks.

I learned to ride on a generic, red, garage sale bike. On my next birthday, I got a yellow bike from Sears, complete with flowered banana seat and basket.

However, being from Michigan where "everyone" goes "up north" for the weekend, we spent a lot of time at the cottage and I needed a bike up there also. Just before she died of leukemia in 1967, my dad's sister asked for a new bike. She got a new blue Schwinn Hollywood with all the awesome chrome, but never had a chance to ride it. It became my "up north bike".

I still have it and still ride it almost every nice day. It rides so nice, that last summer I scoured eBay and Craig's List until I found another 1967 Hollywood, so friends can join me bike rides. The "Wonder Schwinns" are two of my prized possessions.

I got a Huffy like this one for my birthday in the early 70s.Evel Knievel was huge in our neighborhood and we were some ramp jumping fools back then.We made ramps,used ditches,whatever and had contests to see who could jump the farthest.I remember the seat didn't hold up too well to the abuse and i had to ride it for awhile without one,until i found a different one.Great times!!!

Yeah,that was the greatest bike in the world when i was 8 or 9 years old. That Huffy was the first and last bike i was ever bought,i was pretty rough on them. Most my other bikes were pieced together from other bikes or bought/traded for.One of my later favorites,that i paid 75.00 and some trade items for was a Schwinn Scrambler like the one pictured,only it was yellow and didn't have the Daddy logo.That thing was a beast,heavy as heck compared to the ultralite Redlines,etc. they had later,but it was built like a tank and could take some abuse.The only bike i couldn't tear up.I ended up trading it later for a minibike.

Picked up 85 gt pro performer off of craigslist like I had when I was a kid and started restoring gt performers ever since. I have a total of 4 bikes now. Two of them I have completely restored and the other two are in the works.

Here's my first bike. Anyone know what it is? I remember eventually changing out the banana seat and putting motocross handlebars on it . I could ride a wheelie on that bike for several blocks! And it jumped many a homemade plywood ramp too!

I had a Rampar R-10 Mk II. I loved that thing, and only had it about a year and a half before it was stolen. My Mom let some neighbor kid borrow it when I was out of town and he left it laying on his lawn and it got swiped. I could've cried.

One similar to this one, this one pictured is one I restored(See link below) I loved these bikes as a child and I still do today. I spent many hours jumping things and wore the suspension down. These bikes were very heavy and kept me in great shape as a kid : )

This is kinda funny, because I literally and truly was the modern day version of Little Red Riding Hood, replacing the cloak for bike.
I don't know what brand it was, just a traditional girls dirt bike, in bright red, and I rode the hell out of it....in the woods.

We lived up in the mountains, and my Grandma's house was about 1/2 mile away. I'd get on my bike, cross the highway, then take a dark and scary trail through the dense woods to my Grandma's house on my red bike.

I often heard really scary things behind the shadowed bushes, but instead of wolf I was afraid of a big bad bear leaping out. Luckily there were always cookies and candy at the other end.

Looks alot like the bike I had. Mine came from Sears but was probably made by Rollfast. It was a dead rip off of the Schwinn 20 inch frame. Mine was metallic purple. I have a similar one hanging in my mom's garage that I picked up last summer. Along with a metallic blue Schwinn 5 speed Stingray. $25 for the pair. Can't decide if I should put in the time to restore or just sell the Schwinn. I could have a harder time with the purple one. It's so close to the one I had but I don't have the time to restore it.

I had a bunch of friends that raced BMX for teams like Haro, Redline, and Mongoose and never had a desire to race. My original bike ended up with a painted black frame and some BMX handlebars, rims and tires my friends got me from their sponsors. Just so I could look fairly cool when we rode.

Eventually I outgrew the 20 inch and swapped the bars and seat to a 26" 10 speed frame with cranks, tires, and rims from a Columbia girls bike my aunt rode in the 60's. Think Pee Wee but a girls bike in blue. It was way before the day of oversized mountain bikes. Now I have a Diamondback Sorrento. Awesome bike, though medical issues have stopped me from using it. My son has kinda inherited it.

You ought to at least hold on to the purple one, you might find time down the road to restore it. I wish I knew what brand mine was so I could look for one like it. I used to work on mine all the time. It underwent many changes over the years. Did you have the " knobby" tires too? Mongoose, Redline.... those are words I haven't thought of in a while. Good memories!
