I never had a bike...but these were THE bike to have in the 70's
I had one of these, or extremely similar to it anyway. I thought it was real special having a gear stick changer similar to a car.

            Sweet bike, Mitch.

My first bike was a yellow and green JOHN DEERE. The tractor company made bikes, I have no idea why my mom chose it, it was not cool.

I did get a Red and Black BMX later--one my my best Christmas memories--they snuck it into my room after all the presents had been opened...no bike? Sigh. Sadness turned to joy....

Now I ride a Giant hybrid for commute riding. I have a sadly neglected Trek 5000 road bike in my garage, I'm not in riding shape like I used to be. Gotta get back at it this sumer. I'm with you, Brue, I fill my truck up twice a month at the most, driving and parking in San Francisco ain't where it's at.

I actually had the Chopper. It was handed down to me after my cousin outgrew it. And yes, I thought I was Fonzie on that thing.

I had a red and black Huffy dirt bike, and then a red and black Western Flyer dirt bike from Western Auto. That sucker was BUILT. Did all sorts of crazy jumps and stunts on that thing. Had some collosal wrecks (my wife still picks gravel out of my back from time to time!) but it held together. It's in my dad's basement right now. I just can't part with it although its probably rusted all to heck.

                        Redline

I had a crappy sears bike that was destroyed in a fire in my friends garage while playing with Matches & Gasoline!!

Then had a Huffy for a short time.

My best bike was a Redline. I believe it was a 500A

I had one of the most unusual bike as a kid. It was called the swing bike. It had a place to pull a pin and the frame was hinged. It was a blast to ride and you could turn on a dime. When I got older I got a diamondback it was chrome frame and had the plastic spoke wheels and I even bought some plastic discs to cover the wheels. was also a cool bike. I even raced it a few time at a local track when I was little. The most fun I had was jumping it into the river with life vests strapped to the handle bars. Dang what great memories.

Just realized this post was what bike DID you have.

                            - a banana seat something one speed we got at a garage sale. it was red.

my brother and sister got equally bad bikes at the same time.

a couple years later my parents splurged for one new bike for all FOUR kids to share - a Ross Cruiser one speed -I still have it.

In high school I had a very used schwinn world

I don't recall the brand, but it was a cheaper equivalent to the Schwinn Stingray, albeit single-speed. Probably a J.C. Higgins, since our family shopped a lot from Sears. Metalflake green with a gold sparkle banana seat and a sissy bar. That would've been about 1970. By '73 or so, I had moved on to a mini-bike.
