I bought the Japanese version at the flea market this summer for like forty bucks or something like that?Comment

Yeah, I remember you picking that up, it was a good price. Gotta get me a Tsukuda one day. Too bad the dome doesn't fit the Kenner Alien. Finding a vintage loose unbroken dome by itself would probably be nigh impossible, but there are repro replacement parts available for the big guy, er...big chap.Comment

Wow, I thought these were going to be priced for the retail toy market. I knew it would be pricey, but pricey like a big Christmas/birthday gift type of toy, not like an adult display figure. Am I imagining things, or haven't Gentle Giant toys turned up at Toys 'R Us? I could swear I've seen some of the big repro Star Wars figures there. I thought I would see the Alien there, too. I was thinking he'd be in the $75-$100 range.Comment

I hope I'm wrong, it's just that this thing would involve more tooling than the Wampa, and GG is that damn toy at a way overpriced $400. I'd be thrilled if their 24" Alien was around $100, I'd grab it in a second, I love big toys, and it would look great with my Shogun Warriors. If it's over $200 though (and I have a strong feeling it will be), I'm out.Comment

Toys should be fun, and paying $200 is not fun.
This sounds like an adult display piece, not a toy. I don't collect adult display pieces. I collect toys. I don't need this for a nostalgia kick. I still have my childhood Alien, and I have a boxed one that I bought in the 90s. Mission accomplished.Comment

But that's not the point.
Just like the recent FTC fiascoes of false advertisement, BBTS showed a pic of a blue carded figure along five loose figures...and a pre-order price.
I suppose it is completely okay for these companies to bait-and-switch and get away with it....it apparently is becoming the norm anymore.
I don't see ZICA doing this.
I don't see BBP doing this.
I don't see NECA doing this.
I don't see EMCE doing this.
FTC did it on every single figure released as of late...Batman Wave 1 showed pics of original megos (even a type1 robin)...KISS DTK figs were all over the place with different hair, different suits, and even completely different heads.
Now, Super7 has done it with the un-announced change of the backer card.
maybe I'm just getting old, maybe I'm just in a mid-life crisis...but this crap is really starting to turn me off on my hobby.
It is difficult to take the good along side of the bad.
But bait-and-switch is illegal in the USA. These companies are doing a substitution of goods and it ought not be accepted so easily by the consumer.Comment

so what figures did folks get that pre-ordered through the super 7 website?
The formal announcement that many of you thought was coming is now here..... August 29, 2013 Funko™ and Super7™ are excited to announce a new...
When we were making the Aliens figures ourselves, the quantity we could produce and sell was much lower than what we are able to do in our new agreement with Funko.
Our original SRP was $19.95, and 5 figures was $100. Funko will be able to produce in much larger quantities and wider distribution, and has a $14.95 SRP, which is $75 for the set. (why others are pre-ordering at $65 is even more surprising, but I can't speak for them.) Regardless, we are aware of the discrepancy in price with the new agreement, so there is a additional, secret figure that will be included in the Super7 pre-orders that will be available only for those who pre-ordered sets of Alien from us, and will not be available anywhere else. (And preorders are long since closed.) We think it will be a nice thank you to everyone who believed in this project and pre-ordered ahead of time, being part of the excitement of the release of this long-awaited line of figures.
Regardless, if you would prefer to get the regular set of 5 through the retailer of your choice, we will refund your pre-order. If you choose to keep your pre-order, you will receive a set of 6 figures instead, and it will be the first figures that arrive domestically.Comment
