I wasn't a customer for these anyway, but those black cards defeat the purpose of the whole endeavor. Why not make the black cards the exclusive (if you really must have them at all)?

And why is there an Alien face on the Ash card?
I assume the actor that played Ash wouldn't allow his likeness to be on the card, or he wanted too much money. Same goes for Kane. You can't see his face on the card either it seems.
My issue with the preorder is I really want to open them, but now they're a little more exclusive. I might have to buy a regular set since these are so darn cool!
I was lucky enough to have a friend pick up the early bird set for me so I got the blue cards, but I would be angry if I had to settle for the black. I agree, it defeats the purpose. I did order an extra alien from bigbadtoystore, and they just processed it, so he will be my opener. As for the rest, well they're just top expensive to justify a second set so maybe if they ever go on sale, I will pick up some openers.
But yeah, the black cards were not a welcome change.

I agree, they are incredibly cool. Really well done. And that makes sense about the card images and actor likeness rights.
That "Kane" prototype was supposed to be Ripley, anyway. Maybe they should have made two Ripley figures...just like Kenner was going to do? I don't know what Kenner would have done about Ash. Maybe they would have used a painting instead of a photo, or had some other actor model for a photo, or perhaps they would have just dropped the figure. But if you're going to do a "what if" retro line, you shouldn't have anything that breaks the illusion. The black cards and the weird photo choices break the illusion.
sigh,
Not only did they change the cards to black, my account was charged $72.38 shipped for my September pre-order.
These are selling on eBay for about $65 with free shipping.
My early bird kit. Still no sign of the figures in Canadaland.
Jealous!

I usually find that pre-ordering something is a waste of time or worse (end up spending more money, etc), unless something is going to be truly limited.
The only one I really want is a blue carded Alien, so that he matches my Kenner Alien's box. So all the mass market ones will be on black cards instead? That sucks, I hope I can get a blue one for a reasonable price.
Given that this is the internet, I don't doubt that someone will repro the blue cards for those that want them. Or it's easy enough to find folks with the skills to pull it off if you guys were to commission someone. It looks like there is demand already!
I think Black is cool too though... stands together with vintage Star Wars
Wow, cool. I didn't realize they were repro-ing the large format vintage Alien. Maybe I can snag a dome for my vintage if it's not too spendy. What's the price point?

I haven't seen a price point, but I wouldn't expect the dome to fit the original one. The Gentle Giant is suppose to be 24" and the original Kenner is 18".
