    Restoration of the Shogun [Warrior]

At MegoMeet this year, Berto was kind enough to give me a good deal on some rather battered, incomplete Mattel giant Shogun Warriors. One was Daimos - one of the last in the line and the one that is somewhat less common than the others. I figured I'd try my hand at restoring him. It's always been helpful for me to get junked versions of pieces I normally couldn't afford, and restore them to what would be perfectly display-worthy for me.

After a couple weeks of work stripping paint & decals, making my own decals, touching up paint and finding reproduction parts, Daimos is complete!

    Before.... and after!

Some previous owner had spray painted his red legs & arms... red. The leg decals were ruined by the paint, and there was overspray on his body. He was also stabbed numerous times all over with what looked to be an ice pick. His head paint was worn in spots. He was filthy. His firing fist and leg missiles were gone, and the internal trigger in his shooting forearm was broken.

EPS files for his decals came from the "MachinderShop" Yahoo group. I printed them up on glossy brochure stock and coated them with American craft glossy spray. The metallic ones aren't metallic, but they're shiny enough to look like it. Working, color-correct Leg Missile recasts came from Derik of Shogun Plastics https://www.facebook.com/pages/Shogu...587493?fref=ts and a color-matched roto-cast resin shooting fists came from Wes Bourn at Bourn Again Creations http://teambac.com/shogun_warriors/shogun_warriors.html

Up later is a Dragun I got at a yard sale down the street from me...

You did an amazing job on that. I love me some Shogun Warriors, and this is such a great restoration. I'm very much looking forward to Dragun. That was the only SW I had as a child. I'd still like a nice Raydeen, though.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

Nice nice nice. I've got a Daimos restore in the works myself. I also got a fist (but a non-firing one) from Bourn Again, and some stuff from Derik. Just waiting to finish a deal on some repro Popy-style stickers.

Sweet! It's great to see an old toy restored and brought back. Good Job! While I love finding minty stuff I too enjoy restoring beaters, it's great fun!

WOW! I saw this guy at the meet and thought his best days were behind him. Never judge a bot by his cover!

Beautiful! I have several questions for you though.

What did you do about filling the ice pick holes?
What did you use to bring that plastic back so nicely?
How do you contact or view items for sale from Wes Bourn at Bourn Again Creations? The link you have up doesn't really show details of items for sale?
I have recently purchased several items from Shogun Plastics with total satisfaction also.

Thanks and cant wait to see Dragun next. How about a before picture of Dragun to get us ready?

I'm also curious how you got those arms and legs back to such a rich, bright red.

Not too much to add, but the guy that makes the roto cast fists has quite the collection!
