Dont open sealed cards,it is way to easy to find open toys in nice shape on ebay.
I would buy boxed mego items if I wanted the best of both worlds. Besides the sealed card has a coolness factor that opened stuff does not have. Any knuckle head can tell its mint if its in the package.
Mego trek might be priced low on or off card, but I would still leave them mip.

Only if it's a total beater, has severe defect or is super cheap. Otherwise no for the simple reason, is there are only so many of these things to go around. No need to deplete a supply that is much more limited than we'd all like to think.

I don't think I could do it. I typically buy two of something before ill consider opening a moc figure. But hey, we collect these things to make us happy. If somebody wants to open one I say wrap that mego, put it under the tree, and tear into it on Christmas morning while yelling "woooo hoooo"!

I would like to own a carded Spidey, and leave him carded. And I'd also bust one loose to have a minty loose figure. But I would definitely open most other carded figures if I got a decent deal on them.

Quick question on AFA. When they seal something in acrylic, is it for good? Can you remove it or is it totally encased?

Totally encased if it is graded. But sunlight will still do damage unless you upgrade to a uv protected case. You can however buy hard acrylic cases that open from AFA.

I refuse to be judged by some holier than thou collector for doing what I please with my own things.

If I spent my own money on it, I can wipe my rear end with it if I choose, and while everybody has a right to voice their opinion, I will ignore it because it was mine to do with as I please.
Looking for Green Arrow accessories, Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver, and Japanese Popy Megos (Battle Cossack and France, Battle of the Planets, Kamen Rider, Ultraman) and World Heroes figures

Newer figures I open, like immediately. Part of the enjoyment for me of the figure is the 3D exploration. The touch, stinky cancer causing smell, poseability. Besides if you leave them in the package you can't see the back of the figure, which I find really interesting for some reason.
The only time I wouldn't open it is if the package is part of the gimmick (like knock-offs or joke figs) or if it's really rare (and I haven't yet run across a figure so rare I could squelch the temptation to open it).

Older vintage figures though, I would only buy one in the package to open if that was the only way I could get all the accessories and doo-dads, and only beater cards. Otherwise I wouldn't dare, I would rather leave it to collectors who would prize it in the package. Or I might open it if there were a plethora (yay! got to use the word plethora) of them so it wouldn't hurt the collecting community to have one less MIP.

I'm always running really money poor however, so for older figures unless I find a great deal on one in the box (then I'd have to check to see if I dare opening it), I would much rather buy a cheaper loose figure.

Also as far as opening new 2000's figures, I sincerely doubt I'll live long enough to sell my collection at future collectible MIP prices, and if I somehow do make it that long I won't care because I probably won't remember what I had for breakfast, and I've no younguns to leave them to, so it's not worth years of itching not-opening. I'm madcap LIVE LIFE NOW.

Do you open it to see if there's a batman actually in there or leave it as is and display it as a brown box hoping that there's a never been touched or seen batman inside?
I recently had a sort-of same problem recently with an 80's sealed Zaxxon board game.
It was a game I wanted (to play, always have to play with my games!), and found it at a game hoarder garage sale house still sealed in shrink wrap with price stickers.
So I'm thinking it could have been opened & played with, then re-shrunk wrapped by a used store. I couldn't sell it without opening it, because I wouldn't want negative feedback if that was the case.
So I opened it, and sure enough COMPLETELY mint, un-punched, un-put together. Now I could sell it (at maybe a little cut in value), but I still really want that game.
However, I DARE NOT peel the stickers off and break the plastic punched pieces and play with it, because it's MINT condition opened.
So now I'm just hoarding it, un-played with, until I get a used nice one to play with, then I can sell this.

IT's RIDICULOUS!! But that's just how it is.

Mego Cards I don't open, especially if it's a nice one. If I want a loose figure I buy one....all New figures get their asses ripped out nothing stays in the box...I know they won't be worth crap years from now....lol I only keep the 90's stuff carded so I can sell them for a dollar at the local flea market....

I think most people do that now; after the 90's figure boom/bust. The irony; THAT'S what will make certain 90's figures collectibles again in ten years or so.

Just bought and opened a MOC Secret Wars Magneto.

I do it with Kenner MOC all the time. All of my Swamp Thing, Robocop, and plenty of my Super Powers figures were bought carded and opened.

Would I ever open vintage MOMC or items of a rare and extremely valuable nature? Probably not, but it would mostly depend on what I paid.
