Born in 1982. My earliest toy memory was getting the He-Man/Battle Cat gift set when I was sick with a cold at age 2. From then on, I was a MOTU fanatic and collected everything until the line ended in 1987. I think I pretty much everything with the except of Eternia and a few other items. Aside from that, I had tons of GI Joe and a little of everything from all lines.
In the early 90s around age 10, 11 I got into Star Wars (few years before the big boom and POTF2) stuff and I built a great collection over the years. When I got the internet in the early 2000s, I sold it all. I always maintained an interest in old toys, but would get too depressed to collect any of it after I sold the Star Wars stuff. I figured I'd never be able to get a collection again without spending a ton of money.
I collected/played with toys until probably age 12. Some of the last lines I remember buying were a lot of the ToyBiz Marvel stuff, Kenner's Terminator 2 stuff, Hasbro WWF, Monster in my Pocket. I was into Spawn and some horror stuff in my teens, but would lose interest quick in that stuff.
My childhood toy collection (what I didn't sell or give away), suffered a terrible fate. Squirrels managed to eat their way into my attic and urinated and defecated all over it, as well as chew some of it up. They dismembered a My Pet Monster and made a nest out of his remains too!
Decided to start collecting only a year ago and I've already accumulated a nice collection. My taste has gotten more and more for 70s stuff since.Comment

I loved action figures as a child. At about age 12 my parents stopped buying toys for me. Can't really blame them though. But still, I loved action figures. It wasn't until I was 22 that I found a comic book shop that was selling vintage Star Wars figures. It blew my mind that adults were collecting toys. I imediately started collecing for myself. From there I found Toy Shop magazine and started to collect even more lines than vintage Star Wars.
As for the question at hand, I'd say I'm a hardcore collector. I would speculate that most people who actively visit and post on toy collecting sites would be.Last edited by Jason73; Jul 15, '11, 11:19 PM.Comment

I generally buy fun stuff that fits into what I liked as a kid. Which mainly means Micronuats and Microman stuff, but nowadays more on the Microman side since that stuff was harder to get as a kid, but I had enough of a “taste” thanks to a cool local toy store that I have been bitten.
I used to just buy and accumulate generic kitsch until I fully embraced the fact that eBay and online trading sites could help me get exactly what I want instead of kitschy stuff that somewhat mimicked what I wanted. If that makes sense?
I’m also very into paperwork and vintage catalogs from vintage toys. A lot of times I don’t want the toys as much as I want cool pieces of artwork connected to the toys and stuff.Comment
