What sort of collector are you ? hardcore?

What sort of collector are you? and what made you start collecting vintage Figures and toys ? well for me we had loads as a kid but stupidly as I got older Id give them away or smash them up , or mum would give to jumble sales and I lost a lot of my stuff , some of my favourites I did keep , really as a teenager I was more into music going out and having fun so my dolly's and stuff got the heave ho then roll on to the late 89 early 90s Id go to jumble sales / charity shop's and see loads of old 70s stuff toys I had and loved and just got them dirt cheep remember this was long before eBay so it was really the only way i could get them , later on Sci fi magazines would come out Id spend weeks corresponding with sellers fans and it really did take ages to get stuff but worth it when I got the stuff in the end ....shows how much things have changed my first Cher Mego doll cost me 170 pounds in 1998 got that through a magazine .. I now know its not worth that

I still do car boot-sales and charity shops but all the good stuff is long gone how far would you go for a grail ? for me if I want it Iv got to have it and save for it sometimes after it arrives I cant be F@*$" with it and end up on a guilt trip hahahahahaha Id say I was hard core i love the fact I can look after them save them from being lost forever and I dont think I will ever stop its been a great hobby and iv even started customizing stuff .....

Accidental. Would describe my collecting. It all started when I was looking for an interesting hobby to keep me entertained while taking care of my Dad. I started doing custom GI Joe stuff. Then it turned into Mego. My raw materials came mostly from thrift stores. On searches for fodder, I find other classic toys worth collecting. Since I'm buying mostly in public venues. I have a rule of letting the kiddys have first go at the toystuff. I cant justify to myself taking a toy from a kid whose interested in it.

I was 18 and working at the checkers burger joint

I come home tired as hell, and my bro runs to my room and tells me to run to the kmart we had next door that some dork was pricing everything wrong, this was during the episode 1 era in 98-99...I had stopped collecting in 92-93 like most teens did..so i get there and some young kid is pricing everything he can touch for $1-$3, I ask him what's going on? he tells me his boss says they have to get rid of the whole clearance isle, this was right after x-mas..he tells me pick anything you want and I'll mark it $1 for you...this is what got me back and here's what I got

      POTF star wars-$1 each
      starting line ups $1
Starting line ups 12" dolls $2
      Barbies $2
the Elvis and Barbie set $5
The Star trek barbie set $5
      Star trek playmates $1
      WWF jakks $1
      board games $1

I spent about $250, but this wasn't the end of it , I then turned around and returned most if it at toys r us,KB toys and Walmart for the the full retail price.. like for example I got $29.99 for each of the 12" Starting line ups at toys r us and $15 for the regular size ones at KB toys in store credit, then I'd get stuff I really wanted or I would get something I knew was regular price at kmart, return it back there again and keep getting more clearance items to then turn around and keep exchanging in other stores...I made thousands of dollars like that

not bad for an 18 year old kid working at Checkers huh?

I actually never stopped collecting. my collection just got put away for a few years. I actually saved all of my Kenner Star Wars toys and whatever Mego's and GI Joes survived my childhood. there really was probably only 2-3 years where I did not actively collect toys, maybe like 85-86. then the Trek TNG figures came out and I bought those up and then maybe a couple years in the early 90's where there was not much to buy except perhaps some of the Batman movie figures, which I did buy as well

I've always liked toys and never went through a phase where I thought I was too mature for toys. I don't care about what's popular or valuable. I collect what I like and my tastes and attention span is all over the place.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

There's never been a point in my life where I "didn't" collect megos. I've always been on the hunt for mego's I need. Just been part of who I am.

Probably like Werewolf, I never really went away from toys or comics for that matter.. Either in my college days or my time in Europe in the Army, I didn't really have room to put any out, just collecting a few Secret Wars and Next Gen figures.

Once I bought my house here back in '92.., my collecting re-emerged with grabbing vintage Joe and C/A items, sorting out all the stuff that survived being boxed away, getting rid of some stuff I really should have hung on to, like my RC Robin...

The Mego spark didn't ignite until the end of my first deployment a few years back, wanting to pick up a retro Andorian for a knicknack. Now I proudly own a Dida Baxter Building, collecting Marvel Megos like it's goin' out of style.

Big kudos naturally go to this Forum..!!
                Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

I don't know if I'm hardcore, but I do love collecting many different kinds of things. I know some people are into certain genres, but my tastes vary. Yeah, I like action figures, but I like dolls too. I like Star Trek, but I love Shaun and David Cassidy. And yeah, I like Rick Springfield. I collect records, Atari video games, Colorforms, board games, Saturday morning cartoons...just all kinds of stuff.

no doubt about it, most of time I just switched them for other figures or toy lines, they never gave back cash just store credits...so they got their money back regardless
