    Space Academy by Aviva

I always kind of found it odd that out of all the cool shows that Filmation produced in the 1970s, my least favourite ones got all the merchandising. Sure, I watched Isis on TV but there was no way in heck I could buy a girl doll.

Also, despite being a lover of SF at an early age, I could never get into Space Academy the way I did Ark 2 or Shazam!. Mego actually snapped up the rights to Ark 2 but didn't release any of the planned figures but Aviva, a subsidary of Hasbro released the Space Academy line using the Hasbro Super Joe bodies in 1978. From what I'm told, these were an exclusive for Woolworths.

A year later Space Academy would morph into "Jason of Star Command", a more action orientated series that would, of course, see absolutely no merchandise, boo!

I had a couple of those as kid. They were actually pretty nice until they fell apart. Their limbs just dropped right off.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I have these figures. I wish they were all constructed like Loki (the little one). He's a poseable action figure w/o the rubber and wires. All my other ones are crumbling. One day I'm gonna put them on 9" Mego bodies. And I DO want the girl figures!

I had Tee Gar Soom as a kid. I did get him at Woolsworth. I liked that show as a kid. It use to come on Saturday afternoons, if I remember correctly.

Found a mint Loki on ebay for 29.99 buy it now.

One of my favorite shows when I was a kid, and ended with a lot of unsolved plot holes.

There were just the 4 male figures released. They skipped over the African American guy, left out the girls and never did a robot for Peepo.

I recall one guy did cross over from SA to JOSC. He was actually a guest star in a SA episode. Also if anyone could resize a Dirk Bennedick head from A-Team or Joyride/Galactica figures it could pass for a Jason of Star Command.

Am I the only one who found it odd that no toy company thought about making Lost in Space figures when Zachary Harris was a hot commodity in the late 60's and early 70's? But decided it was valid to make merchandise after his career had dimmed and he was making forgettable Saturday morning cartoons and live fluff shows like Space Academy? To this day I still find it absurd that all we got from that era was a Remco robot, which barely looks like the B9, and a few model kits. Just incredible that toy companies had so little insight.

maybe aviva like so many other companies at that time wanted to jump on the star wars figures/ toys "space bandwagon" ?

I think you mean Jonathan Harris (who played Zachary Smith).
