I don't remenber this at all, unless I'm getting it mixed up with Ark II. But I loved Jason of Star Command.

Jason of Star Command was the sequel to Space Academy.

To this day I still find it absurd that all we got from that era was a Remco robot, which barely looks like the B9, and a few model kits. Just incredible that toy companies had so little insight.
That's not entirely true: Mattel made a sort of classic "plastic army man" type Smith -- as well as the Space Family Robinson, Major West, and Debbie, the Bloop (!) -- for their Switch 'n Go LIS Chariot set. And while they were never sold in the US, Marusan -- who made a slew of cool LIS stuff, like a Jupiter II model LONG before Polar Lights ponied-up -- made a Smith doll, though it looks nothing like Harris:

BTW, there have also been a couple of Smiths more recently: Trendmaster made a MEGO-like (9"), gray jumpsuit (my favorite of his costumes ... if for no other reason than it was worn in the best of the LIS episodes) figure about 15 years back and Metropolis Toys released a third season 12" figure just a year or two ago:

Careful with these guys. I bought an entire set of them boxed that looked mint but whose limbs were actually holding on for their very lives! The material the limbs were made of actually degrade to a crumbly mess. I sent mine back. Except for the Dr. Smith one!

it's not the limbs, it is the joints. same problem Super Joe had. you can rebuild them. better than they were, better, stronger....
takes a little elbow grease and know how but it can be done. Zica makes hands that are a perfect fit.
