    Toys that you still have..

What are some toys that you got when you were a kid that you could never get rid of? Something that you still have. The story behind the toy as well.

I would have to say my oldest is my fisher price toys that I got for Christmas when I was a kid. My favorites are the star wars toys that I still have that my mom got me from toytown.

I have all my Star Wars toys, and a big box of my Legos. Not really sure why they were spared being donated like all my other toys. The Legos will become my daughter's soon.

If I hadn't let my "friends" play with my toys, even more of my childhood treasures would have survived. As it stands my son inherited my Mego 8" and Pocket Batmobiles, as well as a large number of Super Powers figures. And he likes to occasionally play with my MASK figures and vehicles.

I still have a lot of my childhood toys but one of the oldest is my Mego Joker. My mother promised to buy me two Megos if I learned how to tie my shoes (great incentive!). So after I learned, she took me to the store. At that time, the super foes were just released, I was surprised to see them, so I grabbed a Joker and a Mxy (why I picked Mxy, I'm not sure, I think I just wanted a bad guy to go with my Superman. I called him Mr. Morax). Anyway, I still have the Joker (he's in pretty decent shape) and also Mxy's head.

The oldest toy in general that I still have is a rubber duck that was my first Christmas present (I was only six days old. I was due to be born a couple weeks after Christmas so no one was really planning to get me Xmas presents).

I have some stuffed animals in my mom's closet. I am sure if I find them now, I would skin them and use their fur on customs.

My original Star Wars Stormtrooper & Princess Leia -
When I was a kid I went with my mom and older brother to K-Mart. We were near the registers and there was a table loaded with Star Wars figures. I of course wanted one and my older brother, who was working at Wendy's at the time, told me to pick out a couple. I chose Darth Vader and was looking for Luke when my brother said, "Get this one." as he handed me Chewbacca. "And this one." as he handed me Han Solo. He said, "I'll get you four." As I smiled happily, he said, "Get this one too." as he handed me a Tusken Raider. "Just get eight." he said, and I grabbed a Stormtrooper, Ben Kenobi, and Princess Leia. It was a great day. I managed to hold on to Stormy & Leia all these years. Leia is packed away somewhere, but Stormy is on my toy shelf.

                Eagle Force Savitar-
One evening I was sitting in the living room when my older sister Joyce and her boyfriend Gary came in. They had gone to the store. Joyce said, "Gary picked these out for you." She handed me General Mamba, Beta Man, Savitar, Cat, Kayo, Turk, & the Shock Trooper. I had never heard of Eagle Force (and didn't even know what Mego was back then) and since all of my figures were Star Wars & GI Joe size, this new format was fascinating. Even more so when I found out they were metal. Anyways, I managed to hold on to Savitar, mainly because he's a ninja and I was big into ninjas when I was younger. Actually, I still love the whole ninja thing.

Our family didn't have alot of money when I was growing up, so these two events are very memorable to me. First, because they were just random "gift" moments, and second, because they were such generous "gift" moments. I have to admit I was spoiled despite my family's situation, which did improve as the years went by. But these two memories are humbling because thinking back, I don't feel I really deserved such generous gifts. But I guess that's what people do when they love you. They make you feel loved in the ways they know how.

Now I miss my brother and sister...I guess I better call them.

I still have just about everything, just because I wasn't the type to get rid, and my parents had little problem with it so long as things were stored. In particular, the main lines for me were Empire's Legends of the West, Super Powers, and MOTU. I also had Gabriel's Lone Ranger, Raiders and some of the D&D toys.

Wanted: Legends of the West (Empire & Excel) and other western historically-based figures. Send me an offer.
Also interested in figures based on literary characters.

I have a bunch of stuff, too. Outside of some really early stuff like a toy Pooh bear from Sears. My son now plays with my Fisher Price house and garage. I also have a bunch of SSPs that we pull out from time to time.
                        It's all good!

After all these years I kept the 12" Mego HULK. I never owned the 8" version until I joined these boards.

I have a tool box full of Star Wars, Battlestar, Buck Rogers, ST-TMP, Black Hole 3 & 3/4 action figures. Some kid in my old neighborhood had his parents offer me money for them but I wouldn't part with them. The first 1/2 of my childhood was playing w/Megos. The second 1/2 I played with these.

I kept the Mattel SPACE:1999 Eagle 1 tho many small parts are missing. Still have my Star Bird electronic spacecraft but I marked it up w/permanent marker as a kid to make it look distressed.

I kept my Galactica & Cylon Base Ship model kits-not toys I know. They were presents from my parents for my 10th or 11th B'day. The Galactica is in pieces now because my friggin` brother took it outside and threw it on the concrete floor to pizz me off when we were kids. I re-glued it but it kept coming apart every few years. I will have to do a major fix on it.

My family moved in 1979 so a lot of stuff-mostly MEGO was thrown away. Tho we only moved 10 blocks from where we used to live. I have spent a lot of time on eBay buying back things that were discarded.
