Merch based on the iconic 1966 Batman pin-ups

Over at 13th Dimension, we're in the middle of BATMAN PINUPALOOZA, celebrating the 60th anniversary of those iconic pin-ups featuring indelible images of Batman, Robin and their Rogues by Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson.

For my latest article, I spotlighted 13 pieces of merchandise inspired by or featuring that seminal artwork. There are hundreds, maybe thousands more examples, but these cover a nice range of products, including Mego!

Neat! I had never seen that lamp before. Very cool. Too me the oval Batman insignia with the capsule belt is still the best look for the character.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Great article! The quintessential Batman, rivalled only by Adams/Aparo IMO. I had those Chemtoy figurines, too.

I have several of the DC poster-prints framed, including Rooftop B&R, Penguin, and Aparo's villians group. Iconic, to me.

Something I really like about that era's reliance on this art, especially including Mego, is that toys then featured a classic Penguin, with a properly-cut tailcoat different from the Joker's.

That probably only matters to me, but anyone watching Batman '66 sees it, too--and all the way back to Sprang & Burnley. No-one knows what "on-model" is today lol.

Interesting observation about the costume details. It should be much easier for artists to keep elements consistent, since it's all just a google away, but they often don't. It is kind of aggravating.

Thanks everyone for taking a look at the article. Be sure to check out some of the wonderful artwork the regular 13th Dimension contributors have created, inspired by the pin-ups. I have one coming up on Saturday as well.

I also contributed this "Just Imagine" or "What If?" illustration of what a single pin-up combining most of these may look like. It was a fun exercise to ape Infantino and Anderson's style!

Nice! I really miss the clown prince of crime Joker. I think Super Powers was the last hurrah of that Joker. Not a fan of the modern serial killer psychopath Joker.

Thats some brilliant art work, I’d like to see more Just Imagine or What If, with other heroes and villains if possible.

Thanks! I don't mind a murderous Joker, as he was a killer when he first appeared. But they've DEFINITELY taken it too far. My sweet spot is the BTAS Joker. Deadly, but still humorous.

Thank you! A series like that would be fun to do. No plans, but I would defintiely be open to doing more of these if the opportunity arises.

                      I love the pin-up pastiche!

It just popped into my head that the classic Infantino/Anderson art influenced the '68 Filmation model sheets, too.

Oh definitely. Filmation definitely took the Infantino look and ran with it. Even more so than Swan on Superman and Cardy on Aquaman.

                          Great article.

Wasn't aware of the classic Infantino/Anderson art influence . Love the merch. I should have quite a few piece of it in the basement.

I wasn't born until 71 so I missed most of the Batman '66. I did watch the reruns and was caught up in the Super Friends era. My young brain was just excited to see reruns of the Live Action and cartoons of my comic books.

Nice poster! I was born in 74, so it was all second hand to me too. But those 1966 images were still all over the merchandise in the 70s, right up until the 1982 DC Style Guide by Garcia Lopez went into use. And you could still see them in use from time to time, and even today.
