No idea how this thought came into my head, but if anyone would appreciate this it would be here.
I love knock-off/ bootleg items (mainly those dealing with Godzilla and other assorted monsters). For those close by to Flushing, Queens, NY might recall a small China town not too far away (then again it might have been a small Korea town).
In the early to mid 80's I was at one shop that had a slew of Godaiken robots (in fact I bought Spiderman's Leopardon Godaiken here), however they had two amazing knock off Transformers that I never saw again..
One was Perceptor but in silver and black. The other was the then massive Omega Supreme also in silver and black plastic. The color scheme looked cool as hell and I wish I could see them again. I also wish I was older so I could have purchased them as well as more godaiken that did not make US toy stores that often (like Tetsujin 28)
Another knockoff came years too late, but I have a "knights and dragon" type of set (1990s) and this came with a rip-off of Trendmasters version for Rodan. It was made of the pvc plastic (solid red color) that the figures from the Godzilla vs Tricephalon plasyset were made from--ahhh if this only came out back then...
the list goes on...
Perhaps I should have called this toy knockoff regets?
