    those darn bootleg toys...

No idea how this thought came into my head, but if anyone would appreciate this it would be here.

I love knock-off/ bootleg items (mainly those dealing with Godzilla and other assorted monsters). For those close by to Flushing, Queens, NY might recall a small China town not too far away (then again it might have been a small Korea town).

In the early to mid 80's I was at one shop that had a slew of Godaiken robots (in fact I bought Spiderman's Leopardon Godaiken here), however they had two amazing knock off Transformers that I never saw again..

One was Perceptor but in silver and black. The other was the then massive Omega Supreme also in silver and black plastic. The color scheme looked cool as hell and I wish I could see them again. I also wish I was older so I could have purchased them as well as more godaiken that did not make US toy stores that often (like Tetsujin 28)

Another knockoff came years too late, but I have a "knights and dragon" type of set (1990s) and this came with a rip-off of Trendmasters version for Rodan. It was made of the pvc plastic (solid red color) that the figures from the Godzilla vs Tricephalon plasyset were made from--ahhh if this only came out back then...

    the list goes on...
Perhaps I should have called this toy knockoff regets?

korea is a common source for modern bootlegs but Taiwan was the source for the knock offs of the pre trasnformer diaclones.

ther used to be some great websites that seem to have closed shop I'll have to check at home for links but these links may help

black perceptor is either the microman takra original or just as likely a knock off of that one

are one of these the omega you are talking about?

      Hmmmm....

I had a cheapie knockoff Perceptor like that, back in the day. Diaclone/Microman/Transformer knockoffs were INSANELY common around here during the 80's. You could pick 'em up at corner stores, toy stores, hobby shops....

I love bootleg toys, especially when done really badly.
I have a SW Solo in carbonite, on a Stormtrooper card. It's also carded upside down. And the body and sleeves don't match colours.

        Other than that, it's perfect.
        Should I have it graded?

Actually, some SW fan might pay dearly for that

Love bootlegs some are outright laughable and some are pretty neat......the two best I've ever picked up was a Batman returns 12 figure and a mexican Supergirl Barbie with the red and blue costume. That I customised.

the funny thing was the knock off diaclones from taiwan were actually really well made and had really good copy packaging. not that there weren't poor knock off's in wacky colors too but I am talking about the true knock off's in the same colors as the diaclones. none of them were as junky as the walgreens combiner knockoffs of the constucticons today

I had some Godzilla toys that were about 4 inches tall, and they came in a plastic bag. I distinctly remember having the one with sharp horns for hands. My mom bought them in Boston and brought them home for me. I have no idea what they were, but I always thought they were bootlegs. They had swivel arms and legs, and I think were based on actually Godzilla enemies. Any ideas?

Yeah, vintage Star Wars bootlegs are very popular with some collectors. The most famous SW bootlegs are the "Uzay" figures that came out of Turkey (which had cards with wacky photos and included such "exclusive" figures as Bluestars and Headman). Those ones are insanely expensive and desirable these days.

I found that Rodan with knights set at Big Lots back in the late 90s. Cleaned out 3 or four stores. The set was $1.99 I think. I sold the Rodan figs loose at monster shows for 10 bucks a piece for quite a while. I think I still have 3-4 around. It is a dead ringer for Rodan and has no markings whatsoever. The Godzilla crowd snapped 'em up.

I remember good ones, AND bad ones. Some of 'em seemed like legit releases. (Like the Chronoforms series.) There were just SO MANY at the time. It was a good way to build an army.
