>I never even saw them in stores, only in advertisements
That's weird 'cos I never saw them in ads. Back in the early/mid 70's models like these, and the Auroras popped up EVERYWHERE here in Windsor. I mentioned before that I got almost all my Monster Scenes kits from a corner store, (which is now an Indian restaraunt) the Movie Monsters and nature kits were in every department store; and the bigger ones had the dinos and these bugs. (Got my first set of Gigantics from Sears.) In the early 80's (PRE '83) I got a new scorpion and tarantula from Mr Gamesway's Ark in Toronto; where they had a pallette of each! Up until '85 or so the old kits were still pretty plentiful. (I remember a store in Windsor, Maple Leaf Importing; which was like the Ark, having a pile of AT LEAST 100 Phantom of the Opera and Black Bear kits.) Around that time the Japanese kits swarmed in and the old monsters disappeared.
I'd been told that around here was something of a dumping ground for old products from the US. Maybe that's why we had so many odd kits available in so many places?
