    1973 Collegeville Halloween Costumes Catalog

Followers of this site and blog will know that Collegeville is a favourite subject around here, that's likely because I got a ton of these as a kid combined with the fact that they got some really cool licenses.

1973 was a cool year for Collegeville, in addition to their line of generic monsters and familiar looking superhero designs, we got stuff like The Phantom, H.R. Pufnstuf, Pebbles and Bam Bam, Ultraman, Hot Wheels, Big Jim and my personal favourite of the lot, the SHADO pilot from Gerry Anderson's U.F.O.

Oh my goodness, I need to own this badly. Click on any image to check out all the fun of the 1973 Collegeville Costumes Catalog.

      Wow...

I know my mom got me the kitten mask when I was 5 and in kindergarten. I don't know why I never had a costume, (Mom wasn't that big on Halloween), all I know is that she came home w/ that mask and a Slinky.

I find it interesting that Collegeville actually had African American costumes. If my dad had known, he would have made me wear them. (he was very Afro-centric).

I love Kid Power! It came on Saturday mornings when I was 6. If anyone is familiar w/ Wee Pals comic strip by Morrie Turner, that's what it was based on. That costume is the character Oliver. (I did find a couple of eps on video.)

I would've gone nuts over some of those costumes as a kid

            Hey!

Their Phantom looks better than the one form the new show!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who liked the grown-up Pebbles.

There's some crazy stuff in that catalog. Unlicensed rip-offs, off-model characters...it's a perfect 70s pop culture time capsule!

Yosemite Sam was quite popular that year...besides myself I recall about 2 others in my class (2nd grade I think...)

I think some of those masks might actually be frightening to a kid. The Devil and the Skeleton in the 100 series are bit erie.

I had the Casper costume for my first trick or treating when I was only 3. My mom still has the picture.

This dovetails into my recent purchase of three vintage costumes from a yardsale a few weeks ago. Two where Ben Cooper and the third a great skeleton Collegeville one. I tend to enjoy the traditional ,non-superhero ones the best. I don't even know what year they are. I do know the " Spook Town " box wouldn't fly in today's touchy world.

those 70s costumes were awesome. Recently I uncovered some incriminating photo evidence of myself in the Casper costume. What was my mom thinking.

I love these old costumes. I had the Casper The Ghost one but it's different than the one in your catalog. I also noticed that there were not any superheroes...like, Batman!

I'm assuming that Batman was licensed to Ben Cooper....thus Collegeville's "The Bat" substitute...
