Fun list! My personal faves are the GI Joe ones. What's up with the dude making such a big deal about the Star Wars VHS release date? What a spaz
I dunno, all I know is I rented Star Wars in '82 but I'm not going to bother getting into it with that guy.
I've had other people challenge my knowledge of action figures or go as far as to deconstruct a joke claiming it's not factual. These people must be a treat at social gatherings.

This one has a somewhat intriguing premise, but the "aliens fed on emotions" thing, etc. is a little old, even by the time this set came out. And Captain Kirk doesn't punch anybody. To Starve a Fleaver - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki

I'm pretty sure that Star Wars did come out on VHS (and Beta!!!) for rental in the spring of 1982 and was available for sale starting in the fall of 1982 (it was in the theaters again in the Summer of 1982 as well), but to be honest, you could have said 1986 and I wouldn't have noticed. I guess I need to have my geek card revoked because it really didn't seem like you were throwing out a specific factual date on there, just making a point about how at the time kids didn't have the ability to watch their favorite shows or movies any time they wanted. However, if you decide to 'school' that guy - as he so eloquently put it - I'm sure you can find plenty of places online with exact dates.
I've noticed a lot of blog-like sites get hammered with rude comments, know-it-all comments regularly. And people wonder where the anti-social, lives-in-his-parent's-basement geek stereotype comes from.
I loved the Star Wars book and tape set.
Played it so much I almost wore the tape out. (I remember having to open up the cassette and fix the tape a couple of times.)
Though mine was different than the picture on that site.
Mine actually had audio from the movie, and the tape was gold plastic.
I do a pretty good impression of the opening of the Star Wars one. I listened to it so many times that I still randomly say in my best narrator voice, "This is the story of Star Wars. You can read along with me in your book."
I love Power Records and all the knock-offs too. The 4 GI Joe ones are my all time favorites and "Robin Meets Man-Bat" is also a favorite as I've mentioned in the past. "You took my Man-Bat away! SCREECH! And for that, you must die!" Great stuff.
